So my internet will just stop working, the lights on my modem all stay on, the ppp and internet light stay green and flash and i need to restart my modem to get it back up. Diagnostics on windows 'can't identify the problem' or tells me to reset my modem.

When I do reset my modem my ping jumps from its normal ~30ms to about 500ms on the first hop, I presume to the cabinet or the  exchange or something.

I have not called slingshot, just thought I'd check here and see if anyone here knew anything.

modem stats all appear fine to me;
Mode:ADSL2+

Type:Fast

Line Coding:Trellis On

Status:No Defect

Link Power State:L0

 DownstreamUpstream

SNR Margin (dB):11.7 12.3

Attenuation (dB):8.0 3.9

Output Power (dBm):18.5 12.6

 Attainable Rate (Kbps):22892 836

Rate (Kbps):19916 816

Are your lights all solid when this happens?  As in, none of the lights budge when you try and access the internet.  WLAN/PPP light (depending on the router) should flash when you connect with wireless devices/browse the internet.

If all lights are on solid green and not moving, it could indicate your modem is faulty.  This is a way some modems tell you they are faulty.  Other modems use a red power light to indicate there is a problem, or a flashing red light.  Try another one if possible.

Isolate your modem from the phone.  Use the standard phone cable from your phone and plug your modem directly in to the wall in to a different jack-point if possible without the in-line filter.  In-line filters can cause instability problems like this.

Your line stats are pretty amazing.  I doubt it is a problem with the telephone line somehow.

:)

Hi,

Best thing to do is call to make sure its not a known issue or something with your line specifically.

If you are having issues with the first hop, is this referring to the first hop after your modem (second hop)?

If you could PM me your account number as well as a tracert to www.slingshot.co.nz I can look into this for you.

Thanks,
Ben

The lights on my modem did flash, I think it might've been my WiFi actually, I did a scan with a program called inSSIDer and someone was on my channel and interfering, so I've changed that, however that doesn't explain why the hop from my modem to the exchange had such high latency and I have PM'd slingshot with the requested information :)
