Hi Slingshot.

I'm just trying to avoid going through the call center as most of this has been sorted out by my flatmate but here's what's been happening

My flatmate is moving out and the contract with slingshot was with him. We'd just like the contract to now be put into my name instead. I have a reference number I can provide via PM.

Can this name switch be done via PM or do I have to ring up the call center?

Cheers,
Tom

Why not just open a new account?

Edit: I doubt you would get this done via PM. You would need to agree to the T&C etc as you are now wanting to be the main legal user of the service provided and and and... ultimatley the person who is liable for billing.

I dont work for slingshot or any teleco.

I believe opening a new account will require us to go onto a 12 month contract like we had to do this time last year. Would be a lot more beneficial to just continue using our current account which contract ends in about a month and just put my name on it.

You will need to get the account holder to call the call centre and authorise you to take over the account.  You will then need to call up and verify yourself with some form of information and the CSR will make you aware of everything you need to know in terms of the contract...ect.
They definitely prefer it if you can call with the account holder there with you.

:)

Thanks for the info :) This has already been done and he has left me with a reference number to use but it seems i'll have to just ring them up.

Sometimes these things can be more complicated than they appear on the surface. Changing a name means changing an account holder which may mean the need to go through credit check and account setup process again.

More like they don't want the old account holder ringing up finding out he is not authorised to speak with us. Or the new person being added without knowledge of it being hit with a 300 dollar bill and 200 dollars worth of ETFs.

In all honesty I think it is in the Telco's interest to make this as easy as possible. I remember one time when I was flatting, the account holder had left the flat so long ago that none of us even knew the person who's name was on the bill. We enquired about getting it changed but at that stage there was going to be quite a rigamarole and a cost involved so we never changed it. We paid our bill, but if we hadn't I don't know who the Telco was going to chase.

There has got to be a balance between making it easy and not making it too easy that someone with a less than honest mind can willy nilly change the account holder's name out for another person and ruin someones credit history because the other person racked up a huge bill and then cancelled in contract.

It is a bit of a hassle, but the work Slingshot has to do later if the process is stuffed up is quite hefty.

In this case, the original account holder has called up Slingshot letting them know I will be ringing up to change the account into my name. I was just seeing if I could do this via a PM rather than (possibly) sitting on hold for >30 minutes.

Hi

Yes, im afraid for security reasons we cant make changes like this unless the account holder calls up and is verified

Thanks
Lewis

Thanks for your post Lewis.

Another question: In our current Slingshot month we are using the original contract holder's Slingshot email address to log onto the Internet in our modem settings. Come the 18th when our month rolls over, am I supposed to change the log in to my slingshot email address?

they'll probibally make your email the 'master' one if you ask them too over the phone, i know that with my secondary email address i can log in and see the usage and stuff, just can't change anything on the account like the plan, but i know dad's password anyway so it doesn't really matter ;)

Why start a new 12 month contract when I can stay off one? Anyway looks like the best thing is to just ring them.

HI

When an account is created the username that is used for the Broadband is then fixed for that account and cant be changed. you are able to create secondary usernames but the main username will still need to be used for Broadband login.

Thanks
lewis
