Please note I am not advertising their service, this is just my personal opinion. I'm not involved with any of these companies.
We have Slingshot's AYCE plan.
I'm assuming we have used the standard Slingshot/Callplus DNS configuration, becuase I haven't fooled around with that part of our internet settings up until now.
Here's the question.
I really enjoy streaming channels like the main BBC channels from the UK over our internet connection, and I have been doing so via VPN connection for years even before we got AYCE.
The Provider I used (Zattoo) Got wise, and appear to be blocking VPN connections/Tor connections now from what I have seen.
I did a google search on ways to get round this, and I stumbled on something called Tunlr. It's a free DNS service (I'm not 100% sure how that works, so please feel free to explain to me)
Not only did it give me access to Zattoo at my full ADSL2+ speeds, it also improved my latency and speeds locally.
I used to get on average 10-11mb down. With Tunlr enabled I get 13mb-15mb down. Upload stays mostly the same. I've done tests with Tunlr and Default DNS.
I also took out a paid subscription with Unblock-US, and it also works for Channel 7 On Demand from Aus, which was a suprise, Yet again a similar result with the speedtest.
Why is this?
Is it just a coincidence?
