Having moved to a Genius plan I am wondering what options there are for a UPS given that a power failure now takes out voice communication.  I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to UPSs.  I am running a modest domestic network.

Looking around, most UPSs seem to target the business market with enough power to keep a PC up.  There is nothing specifically targeting a low-load device such as a Genius.  They also include power-conditioners but I already have surge-protection in place.  The perfect device would be able to handle a very low load and keep it up for hours if the power goes off and be a little less expensive than what I have seen (over $200).

Can't remeber what it cost me, but does the trick. its designed to go into FTTH home enclosures.

In reality any UPS will work for you. You can get a cheap 600VA for under $100

Here, let me help you: Geekzone Prices for UPS. I have had two Belkin (died after seven years, not that bad) and currently using the Eaton I've mentioned above.

Thanks Mauricio and all the others.

I am wondering what the term "volt/amps" refers to.  Volts times amps equals watts so why is the term watts not used?

My experience with some of the low cost low end units is they don't run down past 50% battery before they just shut down.

Pull 24w off one unit would only last around 2 hours before the UPS shut down.

If the power goes out at 2 am then this won't help you at all at 7am when you wake up and suddenly need the phone.

UPS's normally start beeping when the power goes out as well. So you need to consider the impact of a 3am power cut on your sleeping.

When the power is out in your home, just how much calling do you do that couldn't be done on a mobile?
