My phone is beeping and I can't call out, but the internet is working.
I told Orcon several times not to activate the new phone until 23rd Aug, 2011, but it looks like they have.  I was also reassured that I would receive an email to let me know when the change over will take place, and not to connect the Genius modem until then.  Needless to say I have not got said email.
So... should I connect the modem?
After reading this it is a no-brainer, but this is not good Orcon!

When my line was switched it didn't beep, it was just dead. Plug it in, see what happens.

PM me your loginname, I will see if your phone has been ported over.

If it has, sorry :( Shall I try and get it put back how it was, or you happy to use genius?

the beeping is "intact tone" which means the line has been deactivated on Telecoms PSTN (voice switch).
So porting has likely partially or completely happened ... at least at telecoms end.

Yeah, no phone or internet while setting this up, but I got it to work ok.
I just feel annoyed I was disconnected without warning. No one could call me, and I would have had no support if I got stuck or if the equipment was faulty - heaven forbid.
I'm wondering if I can still use the original Orcon modem as this one is only half the speed. Although speed may not be anything I should worry about. I did wonder though at the reason for Orcon to provide a Cat 5 Ethernet cable - I used the one I already had. (Cat 6)

Thanks for the offer Sounddude - I'm not sure if I'm happy :)

Similar thing has happened to me as well, my connection date was yesterday and I was told not to plug in my Genius till I received a text or email. Well nothing arrived but when I got home the phone line had disconnected  so I plugged in Genius and had a coffee like stated :) .

The Genius showed all the lights except for the phone connection , so  I connected to the modem and no internet. Called support after long long wait I got and the guy @ the other end took me thru the normal routine, reset the router to default etc etc. At the end he said leave the modem overnite it may just work :).

Well Overnite is come and gone, have reset the router again but still no internet or phone. Well on to support again today but the problem is I wont be at home if they ask me to do anything on the router. Anyway will see what happens!!

Jesse: Can you send me your ticket number

Looking at your account and stuff, there should be no reason that it wouldn't work.

Can you give me more detail?

Majoirty of the feedback on speed is that its an improvement.

Has your sync speed dropped?

As for speed, http://www.speedtest.net/ the Dynalink router returned around 10 mbps, Genius returns around 6 mbps in ideal conditions. I haven't tried it wireless yet, changing the cable didn't make a difference.
Now for something completely different: Sky TV3 wont tune on my Sky decoder, but all the other channels work fine. Turning off my phone helps restore it - does anyone else have this problem?
I have FreeView running daisy chained to the Sky decoder, and it doesn't have any interference.
Happiness is still being elusive.

Could someone from Orcon phone me? (04 236 8054)
Phoning Orcon is like going to the dentist... painful.
