There seems to be a lot of negative experiences with Orcon Genius posted here. I was considering having it installed and so would be interested to hear if people in general are happy with this service.

I know that the average user who experiences no problems is unlikely to post on a forum such as this so it seems fair to give Orcon a chance.

I use it all the time :-) Works fine for me :P

tdgeek: Tell your daughters friend to log a fault. Its not the normal behavior. Sounds like the ADSL line might be dropping out.

I had a terrible time getting it set up, BUT since then it has worked faultlessly. Internet speed is faster than before and our monthly cost has halved.

I'd recommend Genius to others as long as you have a GeekZone forum account.

The usual ineptitude from Orcon during installation phase, but once up and running it's been rock solid. I recommend it.

Been good here since day zero. Disconnections etc are not usually a reflection on the Genius product but more likely a line/wiring issue which would occur on any ISP.

Took like 8 weeks to get connected instead of 2, and was left in limbo teething most of the time.

However once it's connected it's been rather good, other than once a brief loss of service in last 3 months.

Peak time performance improved significantly over a smaller ISP I had (when they switched from link telecom to global gateway it went downhills and made me switch to Orcon).

Peak time download/P2P over 1 MB/s, no complains with game lag.

The phone works fine - overseas calling rate could have been cheaper - with 2 years contract I got the handset which saved me buying a wireless phone. Haven't tried the file server yet but should work as long as the hard drive is externally powered.

All in all I'm happy with the switch. At $70 it was a really good deal for me. Even at $75 now it's hard to beat.

Sounds like it might be a Polava getting set up but since when has getting a new phone/internet service set up been plain sailing anyway? Never in my experience. Thank you all for your comments, I will give Orcon a try, in the new year perhaps, don't like my chances of getting anywhere with them over the christmas period.

My boss signed up with them in the past couple of weeks, is all up and running already :) But yeah, with the Xmas break Id say things will be a little slow on the process front :)

We have given up with Genius, we are supposedly to close to the cabniet/exchange and Genius cant handle
the speed? the Orcon guys in here have been great to deal with and have helped us along the way.
Still sticking with Orcon just going back to our old plan which kinda sucks cause its an extra $26 a month.
