Hi

I hope somebody can help me out here. I am currently with Orcon with the traditional land line and ADSL but would like to change to the new Genius plan.

I have a ADSL modem connected to my TP-LINK  TL-WR1043ND router which has DD-WRT installed on it. I run openVpn and some traffic monitoring by mac address script on it (I really like the DD-WRT system for its flexibility). I think the ADSL modem is setup in some bridge mode. I would like to keep the TP-LINK router to continue with this functionality.

The question:
Is it possible to setup the Genius router/modem so that my TP-LINK router can handle all the network related tasks as it does now?

If yes, how?

If no, what would be the best alternative?

Cheers

No problem. Just connect both with an ethernet cable and hook everything else through the DD-WRT router. Just make sure there is only one DHCP server and NAT service.

Thanks linw for the advice. Do you have that type of setup?

Is it really that easy. I assume that the Genius router is the first point of access for any requests coming from the internet. Wouldn't that mean that all the ports have to be forwarded to the DD-WRT router? Besides the ones that involve Orcons VOIP and maybe Genius remote configure service (if there is something like that) .

Can somebody comment and maybe be more specific who has a this type of setup?

Cheers

If you plug your DD-WRT router in behind double NAT will occur.

Thanks sbiddle, is there a way to get this type of setup to work?

Can the NAT be switched off on the Genius device? Can another router be specified as the gateway on Genius device? I am no IT or network expert so I am not sure what else could be involved.

Cheers
