We're with Orcon for a couple of years now (signed over from previous flatmate). Its quite tempting when other ISPs offering more data cap, faster speed and cheaper price nowadays (looked into details at snap). The locked 12month term's over for nearly a year but Orcon offered no benefit to current customers (e.g. free upgrade of data). Still paying monthly rental for their modem :(

We don't want to have another 12 or 24 month term bound to the plan, but looking for some suggestions from Orcon what can be done to have more data cap.
Current plan is naked ADSL.

Orcon@Home Purple+ (25GB) with additional 10GB data pack    $95.00/month

Modem rental                                                                      $5.00/month

Many thanks

Welcome to Geekzone.

Have you actually been on their website lately? They have three new plans:

$75 for 30GB
$89 for 60GB
$99 with no limit

All three include national calling. You are locked into a contract but they're far better value than the old plan you're currently on.

Just read one previous thread posted in April asking similar question - what are the options for non orcon- genius customer. Seems the person ended up changing over to genius...my understanding is that changeover means another 12-month term will apply. hmm...i don't like it..

Thank you :) Yeah, our old plan sucks....The only problem is the contract. What you quoted here is for Orcon Genius plan. There's too much uncertainty of where we will be in next 12 month, and very likely to have a early termination.

Quite disappointed with Orcon as a loyal customer. Used Slingshot before and they add 10G datacap for free to retain their customers after the contract ends. Orcon doesn't seem doing anything.....

Hi,

The new plans are available with a standard POTS line like you have now, as you're on LLU (formerly known as Orcon+).  So you won't need to go to Genius to get these plans.

Besides which; changing to Genius from LLU is fairly painless, delays generally kick in when you're moving from a Chorus service to Genius as that requires number porting.

I hope this helps you with your decision.

Regards

Dan

Thanks, Dan :)

I had a look into the details. It seems I have to sign up for another 12 month contract.....

I guess I'll have to buy additional data on my current plan. Not worth to pay $199 the early termination...

Thank you guys for your kindly replies :)

I asked this question to Orcon  yesterday.  here was their answer.

"Thanks for your email regarding your plan.

We are not upgrading existing plans but all of our customers new and old are welcome to sign onto our newer plans available but would have to sign onto a new contract in order to get them, these are all available to be viewed on our website and you can login and put through a connection order.

Thanks for contacting us.

 The Team@Orcon"

So I guess if you want more data you have to sign up to the fone plan which I don't want to as I have a fone..

I'm currently on Orcon@Home Bronze     30 GB

I remember when Orcon said "We want customers, not prisoners". Apparently they've decided prisoners are more profitable to them than customers.

The contract does not tie you to one location .

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

Called Orcon on 9th to check on more details, CSR explained that all what I could do was to

1) sign up a new plan for a minimum 12 months;
2) buy additional data cap (data cap on my current plan costs 10G for $15; its cheaper for other plans).

I said I would probably need 5 more months service before moving overseas and don't want another contract. I was not happy with either option then I asked what I need to do to stop the service and how long it would usually take to get Internet connect with a new ISP. She asked if I wanted to change ISP? I said I would consider but not sure what's on offer. She then asked me to hold and transferred me to their customer retaining department (CRD).

The person in CRD checked the options and said he'll see what he can do with 12-month contract for a new plan. He called back in half an hour and said 'sorry......'. well, I didn't any much attention to the rest of the explanation, pretty much the same as CSR. But I cant help wondering if that's because I told them I'd be moving overseas in 5 months, so I'm not the customer Orcon would bother to retain. I've learned my lesson. I will do a bit more research when I come back, hopefully with more ISPs in the market by then.

Counting... $2/G for extra data usage, now we've exceeded 4G and still got 7 days to go :(

Well I've got my answer and thank you guys for your advice.

Damn, walked right into that one, didn't I :)

All the best in finding an ISP for the next few months.

BTW, the 'change plan' and 'modify plan' on orcon website don't work properly. When you change the data cap, the price stays the same (from 25GB up to 120GB for $80...i love it :).
