What basic fault checking have you done?

This is the first thing the support person will want you to do

Fault checking... consists of "oh no, the web page is timed out".  Followed by a walk to the modem where the lights are flicking as it re-syncs.  I have turned the modem off and on twice.

I have now just got through to the Helpdesk where the lady said, "yes your connection has disconnected at least 6 times tonight for no reason.  I will re-announce your line.  Restart the modem again and keep an eye on it."

So that's what I will do :)

Sorry mate I'm not a tech, I am a consumer of a product that was playing up. Orcon can do the diagnosing, sure I will help where I can but really am not obliged to fault find first.

What if the issue is with the house wiring?

I am in Papamoa, just out of Tauranga, in a house built 5 years ago. I don't suspect any fault in the wiring, but would be open to getting that checked if the problem persisted.

Re-announcing the line worked, the connection has been up over 24 hours now.

Hey Splayyt,

Yeah I'm in Matua, Tauranga. Was talking to my brother, he lives in Papamoa, and uses Orcon Genius, and he says he had problems on about thursday/friday this last week. So maybe its not 'you' or your house/modem on this occaision.

Otherwise i'd tend to agree with other advise in this thread, just because your house is relatively new doesnt mean the sparky did a great job of wireing it up.
