Just got set up with an Orcon Genius, certainly the most impressive ISP-provided router I have seen. We are on the unlimited calling plan, which gives unlimited national calls, provided they are under 1 hour in length, but begins charging after 60 mins. Some extended calls with family are creeping over this limit, so I was wondering if there is a way to apply a call length limit in the VoIP config? There isn't an obvious checkbox in the router admin page, but I thought I would ask to see if there is a line of code that I can add to the config file or some such. Cheers Nick

A VoIP device doesn't really have a way of determining call length. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

use a clock or countdown timer on your mobile or something. Most smartphones have them. when the alamr goes off hang up before you hit 60 mins and redial. low-tech solutions aren't always worse than hi-tech :D

Cool, at least I can sleep easy knowing it can't be done! Wouldn't be so bad if we had a more modern cordless phone with a timer on screen. Airborne reminders will have to suffice Actually, might have a think about doing it electronically, perhaps by detecting the handset in use indicator in the cordless phone base station, driving a simple timer circuit, which then drives a relay that hangs up the phone line. Will wait and see how much of a problem it is on the first billing cycle and then revisit it.

Just hook onto the call with another handset and terminate the call. I am very brave at this distance!

tongue and cheek, i believe orcon can do what you are asking, at a network level. But why would they? as mentioned already out smart them with a number 8 wire approach.
