http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/7736665/TVNZ-announces-it-may-axe-Close-Up

They say this.....

"TVNZ head of news and current affairs Ross Dagan said a replacement daily current affairs show “with a distinctively different format” would launch in the 7pm slot in the New Year."

I think they mean it will be replaced with some crap reality or trash current affairs programme.

TVNZ seem hell bent on self destruction.

Just replace Sainsbury. A very poor interviewer.

I wouldn't mind if they axed all NZ media and started again...

All righty!
Please get rid of Sainsbury and the taint of Holmes journalism technique of "Put a mike under their nose and try to make them cry" that seems to be par for the course still on TV1.

Watch for Mark Sainsbury to renovate a house while cooking a three-course meal for bikini-clad models jugglig scorpions.

That has put me off all my meals for at least three weeks

My concern is that with the demise of 7 and the demise of current affairs programs there will be no quality free to air  TV soon if not now.

TV3 couldn't put on quality TV to save it's self and Sky is only interested in bulk crap or endless repeats.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that originally the news was 1/2 an hour long, followed by Holmes. That gave you a pretty concise news program, minus the 'good fulla of the week' / 'this dog is so cute' crap we currently get to pad out the news hour. Honestly I'd rather a return to this. In fact from mammary originally 'Holmes' / Close up etc was a 10 - 15min segment at the end of the news hour and then it busted out into it's own show. Point is I'm sick of waffly news stuff on TV, so I just watch the Prime 1/2 hour show only now anyway, or get my news online, at my own leisure/timeslot....

TVNZ7 was cool, news on the hour every hour for 10 mins, and regular 10 min shows in the morning.  That and TVNZ6 was great for kids too.

TV3 has it right in the morning where they are happy to replay the last half an hour over and over so you can jump in at any time. Originally the movies used to run like apparently, so you'd get up and say, right, this is where I came in and leave, and movies had an intermission as well. Man, what a rant there....

They seem to be confused as to what a News programme is and a reality show is.

I would be happy for sport and weather to get their own shows instead of being lumped into the one hour show.

But who watches closeup anyway? They will probably lose half their viewers with analog switch off soon anyway ;)

I would prefer the news to be 1/2 hour National, i/2 hour International and the time slot used for Close up to be for Sport and regional news.

I seldom watch the daily news broadcasts any more as it's too much time for too little of interest.  Getting daily news online makes more sense, because I can pick and mix as the mood takes me.  I also watch Phil Duncan's twice weekly weather updates which are much more detailed than you get on TV anyway.

For current affairs, I record 60 Minutes, Sunday and 20/20 each week as I prefer their in-depth format to the "fluff" that passes for news on Close Up or Campbell Live.

I get most of my news online but there is a lot of folks in our community that don't have access to the internet and TV should cater for these folks with quality TV especially our national public stations.

Why don't folks in your community have access to the internet?!
