hi

i have a pc with a hvr 3000 and i am trying to get freeview with win tv. i have call sky to find out what the LNB settings were and they said that Optus D1 had to be set to 156E but in win tv it is set to 160E. someone said that there was a patch that allowed win tv to get nz freeview but i cant find it.

i have already tried a few things that other people on geekzone have said.

i tried mediaportal, that got the channels but then it would not open again if i minimized it, i have uninstalled it because it was recording properly and then it wouldn't display the channels.

does any one know how to set up freeview on a HVR3000 on windows xp

PC Specs: 2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core, 2GB RAM, 160GB+250GB HDD, GeForce 8500GT 512MB Graphics, Hauppauge HVR3000 TV Tuner Card

Have you sorted this yet?
Try going to Hauppauge singapore support site.
There is a NZ satellites patch there.

Also have you tried reading through Reg's walkthrough for mediaportal?
It has the config settings in there for your tuner parameters and those are the ones i used.
I just took out an HVR3000, however I did have it working well, so if you need any more help, just ask.

I've got the HVR-3000 working sweet with Mediaportal and my Sky dish.

I installed the Hauppauge 4.1 drivers, althogh it looks like 4.2 is out: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support/support_new_xpvista.html

I then followed this guide for configuring Mediaportal which is excellent:
http://mcraenz.googlepages.com/

Your LNB is probably either 10750 or 11300 so just search with one then if no luck try the other.

Hi this is my second go at getting the info to you so I apologise if it ends up in here twice.

I had WinTV installed on my Vista HTPC but when I updated it to CD 4.2 (off the hauppauge.co.uk site) it killed my MediaPortal installation and since MP was giving me DVB-S AND DVB-T with relative stability WinTV had to go.

Since WinTV isn't on my system anymore I'm gunna try and wing it and remember what I did to get Freeview on WinTV.

Get the channel manager up by going menu--suite manager
Select the "sources" tab
Select DVB-S in the sources list on the left  hand side
In LNB settings I put lo: 107500  hi: 107500  switch:0
I selected 'manually scan a frequency'
Type in 22500 in the scan rate window
Can't remember whether I used horiz or vert on the polarity  - try both.
In the frequency window I put in the transponder freqs for the D1 sat (one for each scan) (12456000 and 12483000).
Hit SCAN. Change the freq and then scan again.

Most of the info was gleaned from the the posts and webpages of the uber-geeks on this site particularly mcraenz, so thanks hugely to them.

Incidently my dish has a dual throat 10750 LNB.

i have found out why media portal has been playing havoc with my O/S and have fixed it but i cant get the LNB settings right to retune it. had enough of wintv and found media portal is easier to use especially when record amd setting a program to record has any go the correct settings becuase i have forgotten them from when i had media portal tuned in.

Hi, I have the same card and trying to get it working on media portal also.

I add a card and try to config it, with the following:
Config

But can not seem to get it going....

Just wanted to know what I am doing wrong, is it the Sat I have selected? (Sky TV on Optus B1) as I see the Position is set to 160E?

(Sorry I am new to all this, lol)

Many thanks in advance.

I think you should first aim to get WinTV working before trying to configure Mediaportal.  I found WinTv easier to use in order to figure out if my LNB was 10750000 or 11300000.  Also you'll then know that all of your drivers are working correctly and your dish and TV Tuner card are all ok.

Once you've got WinTv working I would recommend installing both the client and server MediaPortal sofwtare on the one machine and then follow this guide to configure: http://mcraenz.googlepages.com/

I think the sattelite should be Optus D1. Mcraenz details changes you need to make to the sattelites file and adding a couple of ini files in MP tuning parameters directory so that you can select the correct sattelite from the list. And a guide to which LNB you have.

I completely recommend the mcraenz pages quoted above.  And the Mediaportal website has 5 excellent video tutorials that take you step by step thru the installation/setup process (even tell you exactly what you need to download).
Going to the trouble of installing MS SQL, Mediaportal TV-server, Mediaportal, Mediaportal TV-client instead of just mediaportal may seem like a lot of effort and can be more than a little frustrating. But I think it is worth it as now I have a working media-pc that provides awesome pictures to the plasma as well as 'serving' TV to two other computers in the house over my network.  WinTV won't give you DVB-T (HD) but as quoted above it does give you a good way to get used to configuring DVB-S.

A note of caution tho'.  MP does still have some bugs and if you try to get too tricky it throws up its hands and crashes.  It also seems to be vulnerable when Vista updates.  So I still use the panasonic recorder as well for any 'mission critical' recording I need to do.

Stick with it and good luck...

if that doesnt work try this:

have you added the Optus D1 file to your tuning parameters folder for media portal, you wont get freeview on Optus B1
enter these details into a notepad document and ave it as Optus D1.tpl:

satname=Optus D1 (160E)
12483,H,22500
12456,H,22500

once you have added the file, go into MP config and look for the Optus D1 sat just under Optus C1 in the list

also if your are using a sky dish your LNB will most likely be 10750MHz for the LNB0 and LNB 1

the tone needs to be set to "none" and leave the switch at 0

i tried the TV SERVER/CLIENT way and for me it was annoying but if you find its what you need then go for it, i think its really only if you want to have a media centre pc thats hooked up to your tv

I'm successfully getting all the Freeview channels off Optus D1 (at 160E) running a Hauppauge HVR3000 under GB-PVR. (I find GB-PVR "miles" better than the WinTV that came with the card).

My LNB LO is 10750MHz since I'm using the (new type) SKY-installed LNB that was supplied when they installed a dish to give me Prime service (free) off satellite, since I can't get it terrestrially.

Anyone getting any other FTA channels other than those on "Optus D1 (NZ FTA)" (eg off Optus C1 or D2?). Am trying to workout how to turn on the other LNB, which I understand should be able to pick up signal off satellites at 156E.

If you have the dual LNB, you add a new LNB with C1 on it.  But in all honesty there's nothing on there that isn't encypted except the Optus Aurora tuning channel (11 'pages' of info)
