Just bought a Galaxy 9600GT OC Edition for $181 off trademe and am waiting for it in the post. Do I have to have Vista for the GFX Card to decode the H.264 stream? Can't wait to get the card aye, specially for gaming :-). Also what would be the best way to stream Freeview HD around the house but still have my main pc doing the decoding/hardwork? Mediaportal Server. Btw I have a HVR-3000 card, 2.8ghz Pentium D, 2gb ram 750gb HDD space :-)
You don't need Vista for h/w decoding - XP works fine with the Cyberlink codec. The EVR renderer under vista combined with DXVA2 just does a better job.
As for sending the signal around the house you need a PC at every location capable of H.264 decoding as none of this is done by the server, it's all done by the client.

Yes, unfortunately, the clients will have to do all the decoding. However, one may be able to passby this limitation with some sort of wireless AV Sender/Receiver set.
I might do a bit of research to see if there is any host decoding media server software around. My wife's laptop is not quite up to scratch when it comes to decoding/transcoding FreeviewHD TV3 here in NZ.
Edit: I just found out that Webserver plugin for DVB Viewer maybe able to transcode DVB streams. I'll play around with it a bit later on and post my results.
