Bit harsh criticism of bathhurst on 3!

You know why the podium was cut off...? CH7 Australia was delaying the end of the race- yes, the Aussies didn't see the race live!!! They delayed presentation to the winners so that the coverage could catch up with live.

I had CH7 going at the same time as TV3 at home. TV3 was live, CH7 was delayed. Every ad break TV3 played was identical to CH7's breaks. There was no more race coverage that could be shown. I was looking for it!

You know if it was on Sky that they would put ads on while you would be paying for it. Too little live sport on FTA in my opinion to moan about something that's free!

I disagree on this.  TV3 would have been taking the Globecast World Feed, which did show the podium etc in full.  They really have no excuse.  Doubt they would have got it routed via Seven.

Yeah, it wasn't pretty bailing out of the coverage of the podium to play the simpsons, but the reason the podium presentation itself was delayed was that they were waiting at Bathurst for the CH7 delayed coverage to catch up before they handed out the silverware. (for some strange reason CH7 wanted to show the podium live, so held up the presentation for the rest of the world).

At least you got to see most (minus the shortened news) of the whole race live in NZ... unlike Australia where it was mostly delayed.

I hope it's still FTA next year, and hope it's HD 5.1 too...

all people saying c4 should go hd not all shows/movies they get/play will be in hd so a lot of shows will be upscaled like tv2 i know only of vampire diaries and two and a half men and sometimes a movie will be hd same with tv3 not everything is hd

so i think keeping there channel sd is fine btw they have the wrong aspect on dvb-t its 1047x576 but that makes it like 16:10 witch it should be 1024x576 then it would be 16:9 display size

Strange theory that one - can you explain why Shaun Summerfield said or words to the effect "We'll now cross live to the podium presentation", while clearly in the background you could see Garth Tander and Cam McConville on the podium giving their 3rd place speeches and getting their trophies, live as it happened.  This was followed quickly by FU guys were off to the Simpsons.

Kinda makes a complete mokery of your theory that the podium was delayed.  It wasn't.  TV3 chose to bail all by themselves, they didn't need 7's assistance on that one.

Whatever Channel 7 are doing in Australia has little bearing on what TV3 choose to do, and the promises TV3 made prior to, and after picking up the rights to the V8's.   Channel 7 are simply the Australian Broadcaster, all rights are held by and filming is still done V8 Supercars Australia.  They will not be in HD or 5.1 until V8 Supercars Television make the switch.

Prior to gaining, and shortly after they promised a second "sports" channel to play live coverage,  in a similar manner to what TVNZ used to achieve using TVNZ Sports Extra.  For the record this (Sports Extra)played every race live, and most qualifying sessions live as well.  That second promised channel became TV3 Plus One.

TV3 said they would increase the amount of live coverage to viewers.  They have absolutely failed to deliver this, this year hardly any races have been shown live.   Mostly delayed coverage, with the Saturday races being played on Sunday, and the Sunday races pushed out accordingly.

TV3 have simply failed in every single aspect of their coverage of the V8's, when compared to TVNZ.   I gain no pleasure from telling anyone this, but its simply a fact.

It's a pity that TVNZ Sports Extra disappeared... It must have made TVNZ a big profit... It used to sit on a static graphic 99% of the time.

Can't believe that V8 Supercars Australia can't shoot it in HD. Pretty much every other sports event in Au is covered in HD. I wonder if the Simpsons outrated Bathurst - might have been the reason??!

Can't work you out - you've gone from telling us (very incorrectly) why TV3 didn't show the podium, to having a go at TVNZ's profits - personally I don't care - I was simply stating the facts.  Sports Extra showed the V8's Live.  Every race that wasn't on TV ONE was on there, LIVE.

V8 Supercars were originally due to transitition to HD this year I believe (don't quote me exactly on that).  Tony Cochrane stated that follwing the GFC, and the collapse financially of some teams, that there were higher priority investments that needed to be made by V8 Supercars (or words to that effect).  Simple economics, no more no less.  Probably common sense given that a large chunk of the business is owned and run by the teams.

As for the reason TV3 did the chop, well only TV3 know the answer to that one... The race was scheduled to run to 7.30 according to their own schedules.  They've chosen not to comment too much other than using the "technical reasons".  Smells, Sounds and tastes like BS - much like some of your posts :)

Your welcome to keep spouting up any other theories though... I'll leave ya to it...

Didn't mean to upset ya there. Just get tired of hearing how "it was all good back then" all the time. It wasn't even widescreen back then - let alone HD!

You're right about the lack of HD... simple economics I guess. I enjoyed the race myself, even though it wasn't in HD, no BS!

Maybe the current shakeup at TV3 will result in a dedicated V8 channel? I hope it's an HD channel too. I see in the news that the Simpsons is moving to the new Four channel. Maybe it's to create more space for the V8's?

Used to enjoy the Formula1 on TV1, until it was nicked by Sky, wouldn't want to lose more motorsport to Sky. There's not much sport left that's free to watch, is there?

It's fair to say that there will never be a dedicated V8 channel on free to air TV in NZ....

I understand that Globecast contract is up at the end of the year. I can't substantiate that, as I can't find any firm info anywhere. The contract was 4 years.

Globecast are responsible for the filming, so they would have to get HD equipment to film V8 Supercars.

The down side to that of course is we'd probably lose our unecrypted World Feed.

Background info here on V8 Supercar Television Ltd:

Cant see V8SA wanting to change things too much.  To the best of my knowledge the own all the equipment and employ the people used to broadcast the V8's.  Although it was a while ago I remember Tony C stating that part of the rational was to give V8SA ownership and control of the actual footage ie all imagery.  Once you've invested in doing that I can't see why you'd want to hand it all over to an external broadcaster again.

Not exactly sure how Globecast fit into the picture.

Thanks

I suspect then that Globecast have the contract for satellite distribution for the World Feed via Ku and C Band.

I am only making assumptions though, I only know it from a layman outsider sat enthusiast point of view

I know they are 'targeting' 18-49yr olds but not exclusively, just seemed odd/funny to me
