Does anyone know if the Vu+duo can skip by a fixed time increment (say 1 minute, or two minutes) when using satellite Freeview?

I've looked at the manual online and don't see that feature.

Obviously, I want to skip ads, which have made TV here unwatchable for me, and I find the fast forward feature on the DishTV7050
which we have is a pain to use for that.
I understand that Freeview have forbidden this feature for 'Freeview Approved' STB, unless it's for >10minutes. Correct?

More questions:
- does it have a 'time shift' feature that's reasonably easy to use?
- does it have 1080px output?
- can I use one dish shared between the tuners?
- anyone got any experience of reprogramming it? I believe it uses python, which is good.
- best place to get one in NZ?

My enquiries of Vu+ directly haven't really yielded any satisfactory answers, so I'd appreciate a bit of local input here.

cheers

anthony

If you are running PLi on it, have a look at their website for all you need to know.

From memory, keys 1, 4, 7 skip backwards and 3, 6, 9 forwards by 15sec, 1min, 5min respectively.

That's correct about the numeric keys for skipping, but the intervals are user-definable, so you can set them to whatever you want.

Time shift is simple, and can be to a different device from that used for recording.

Output is 1080i.

No problem using one dish/lnb for both tuners. They can be 'looped' through a menu setting.

There are several groups offering "images" - search for Vix, openPli, Blackhole.

I don't know if it's the best place, but I got great service and a great price directly from the importer, Peter at Satlink (NZ).

Thanks for the information!

Can you clarify for me:

Does the 'standard' (as supplied) Vu+duo have these features (particularly the 'fixed time skip') or do I have to load someone's image to
get them?

If I do, is there somewhere I can check out what the different images do and how they differ?

cheers

There is some more info on these boxes at Austech (I'm fairly sure linking to this forum doesn't breach FUG?) This may help in your search for answers!

The unit I received from Satlink (NZ) shipped with the openPLi image installed, and fully configured for Freeview/Sky/SBS reception.  The time skipping feature was present out-of-the-box.  The only configuration I did initially was to separate the tuners (the reverse of the looping mentioned above, which was the default) so that I could run separate feeds from a multi-output LNB.

A good resource for the Vu+ is: http://www.world-of-satellite.com/forumdisplay.php?11-VU-Duo

I can confirm what Xarqi has said, but I got my unit from http://www.satgear.co.nz/. Mine also has the OpenPLi image, and does fixed time steps as standard. In my case I've found that settings of 300 sec, 60 sec and 15 sec work best - most ad breaks are ~300sec, and if they're not, a 15 sec in either direction usually nails it :-)

Great machine - you won't regret getting one!
