Why not get a $20 USB stick one like I from Dealextream then you get no problem with the files I have had Nill support from DishTV I asked them the other day, Twice if the T1050 had better tuners than the T1020 as the T1050 has dual tuners but no reply. I get a lot of pixilations from the T1020 but not on the other PVRs that I have tested or my 3 TV's. I m still trying to find a decent PVR, the only top brand left is the Panasonic but that has only a 250G HD and can only recordfor 37H HD or 105H SD, I see that all other brands have dropped out, and from seaches on the net every one is having problems with the chinese type boxes even one with the Grundig name on it, that also has a NZ 800 phone number in the manual Trying my 3rd DTVS-T1 that has a few problems but No Pixilations, nice remote layout and very clear menus, same chip as the T1020 but a custom format HD and it looks like its made by Hylabs, may be not made in China. One thing that is not listed for all these PVR's how many Record events that it can hold.

What about the 500GB Panasonic BluRay recorder? It's ending its shelf life, so will be at a decent price.

Using an older firmware, ie 1.1f which was from November (I believe), almost all the recorded files run fine on my PC using VLC or MPC. I don't have a flash PC - about 5 years old, but it mostly can keep up with the 1080p resolution. More recent firmwares, such as the December one seem to have lots of problems with the files. PAT/PMT looks to be missing on all the files in the most recent firmware (early March 2012), so VLC or MPC can't read the files, even MediaInfo can't produce any reasonable info on the files. Not sure if this is a copy-protection mechanism or a deficiency in the recording process but my feeling is that older firmwares are better in managing this. Older releases also seem to stop and start files correctly - ie 001230.mpg can be the first file, but the next file, usually named something like 0012301.mpg also has the correct container. Newer versions break that, so to have a readable file, you need to binary copy the file, something like in Windose "copy /b file1+file2 file3" to produce a working file. Easier is on the older software to transcode each file then concatenate the files. So I've always reverted back to the original firmware. Not sure if it's intentional to break the PAT/PMT when recording on the newer firmwares, but it's not so good for me, who just wants to move those spongebob videos to my other computer (HTPC). Hi, ive concatenated both files together hoping it will write the correct header info, but alias it still says its a corrupt video file on my PC.. im looking into downloading a program to repair a corrupt video file, to rewrite the header.. theres one payware :( TS Doctor.. i hope they make a fix, most ppl have media center pc's now, and you should be able to watch your recorded tv series from your PVR in your bedroom while its being streamed.. another settop might be the answer i guess, but then ppl are saying they are using the same chip as the dishtv I do also have a saterlight DishTV STB which will record everything in SD, but I haven't been able to try it, cause the dish is not aligned properly.. that might be a work around i dunno.. shall let you know if TS Doctor fixes anything when i get a chance Hi tried TS Doctor on both the single files for one video stream, then concatenating both files to make one, TS Doctor didn't recognize the files and bombed out before any repair work could be done.. also TS Doctor has stated that the file(s) are copy protected, I know the audio is copy protected because it records AAC audio, which is copy protected audio format.. VLC plays AAC audio back ok on working video clips, but no other media program will play back the audio... so no go on TS Doctor also have noticed the latest firmware (v1.28 Released 1 March 2012) has been ditched on dishtv's website! i guess maybe my email got through that it wasn't working properly? hopefully there will be a fix when / if they fix the problem.. see my thread here on play back issues Forums › Freeview (DVB-T/DVB-S) › Any one else have this problem? No longer sold around here and way over priced, all the reviews would wide state that they are overpriced, plus one of the review sated that it was not a Freeview approved box, no EPG. I need some thing to replace a VCR at a similar price range.

Good Morning, I have a problem with my Dish TV T1020. It will not recognise the remote control. The remote can be used to turn it on, however one it boots, it is no longer recognised. As a result I cannot even upgrade the firmware. Yes I have changed the batteries in the remote. I have also removed the unit away from other appliances to reduce the risk of interference etc. I have had this problem intermittantly in the past, however it seems to have locked out the remote for good this time. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a fix out there? Regards Courts300

Hi Courts300 If your box had a recent firmware on it, it should have the dual remote feature which allows it to work with two different types of remotes. If it gets unconfigured you can reset it by pointing the remote at it and pressing the '0' (zero) button. Hold the button down until a banner pops up that says 'Remote Configured'. Let us know if that works. If not you might need to get it back to DishTV for them to manually reinstall the firmware. But try that first. I've had my DishTV T1020 since September 2011. It's been a relatively hasslefree relationship for me. Initially there were some funny pixelating issues in the first six months. Signal strength was sometimes OK. But I've noticed that they have gone away over time and I haven't experienced it in over a year, so I guess automatic firmware updates have solved it. Yesterday, I got a "Media not live" error and went through a troubleshooting procedure. In the end the WD ext 500 GB HDD drive had died and couldn't be read on any machine. It wasn't surprising to find that it had died after 5 years. Just installed a WD 2TB job and installed without issue. Works great. Pros: Easy to set up; good price. Having USB recording means when the HDD dies you don't have to replace everything. Also overall package (receiver plus HDD storage) is cheaper than an all-in-one digital recorder for the same amt of storage. Cons: Initially buggy firmware that's been fixed over time. Runs quite hot. Will only record TV1 and TV2 simultaneously but won't do it if one of the programs is on Prime or TV3. Almost seems like TVNZ, TV3 and Prime are on different groupings. Score: 6/10

Yep you got it. With three different groups of channels a single tuner that is capable of recording two channels at once can be a bit limited. But better than a VCR :-) Mac Genghis7777: Will only record TV1 and TV2 simultaneously but won't do it if one of the programs is on Prime or TV3. Score: 6/10 There are lots off channels that you can record, Kordia has most of them TV 3 has 3 and TV1 has 4

For what it offers (500GB drive, twin tuner, DLNA server, ability to burn disks etc) I think it is good value. Plus, it will be my third Panny recorder over the years - the other two have been flogged hard, and like the Energiser Bunny they just keep going, and going, and going......... Comparable hard drive units (like the Dish T1050 that Noel Leeming sells for $399) aren't much cheaper, have a lower spec list (no disk burning, no DLNA etc) and, from my reading of the forums, seem to be causing a raft of performance and reliability issues for owners.

Martin had them for $450, but they were up in the $700 price range, the only problem I have is EPG consecutive programs, it flags me about this but not that easy to sort out, I patch the start and stop times but it still drops recordings with out any warnings. Comparable hard drive units (like the Dish T1050 that Noel Leeming sells for $399) aren't much cheaper, have a lower spec list (no disk burning, no DLNA etc) and, from my reading of the forums, seem to be causing a raft of performance and reliability issues for owners. I have one and its not to bad had to fit a Antenna filter do to a Telecom Cell tower near by that runs on $850Mhz, I payed $298 for mine, has good software support and the performance and reliability issues are more or less fixed, Old news
