Just putting this out there, As Maori TV will be broadcasting a big majority of the RWC games on free to air TV will they step-up and go HD?? I would have to say the same about Prime...will they go HD as well??
I would assume TVNZ and MediaWorks will be broadcasting RWC in HD...

Comments please..

I doubt they would, unless there is sufficient demand.

since Sky own Prime they want people to get there sports channels so they are not going to put HD sport out on a free channel .

They can't just go HD without acquiring additional bandwidth. They are both broadcast on the Kordia mux, and I don't believe that Kordia have sufficient spare bandwidth available for them to go HD.

During the Olympics there was A PrimeHD channel broadcast only on Sky satellite. They only transmitted the games in HD, not any of the normal programming, and the channel went off air as soon as the games finished.

I would put money on tvnz showing HD for the games they have. They've built an HD OB truck to use for the rwc! Hope they do dolby 5.1.

As far as I can find Kordia still have 4ch open on ther mux. I would hope they do go HD for the RWC as is this not why the pushed so hard and fast? sat would have been fine if its not going tgo be in HD.

OSB will be the 'host filmer' for the World Cup though right?  TVNZ will have their own truck for the purposes of pre and post match at the ground?

I doubt MTS will do the World Cup in HD.  TVNZ and TV3 will be toss a coin, both have the ability to to HD.  If it's just a matter of sourcing it from Sky, then as long as the cost can be justified i'd say they will.

Prime don't have any World Cup rights as far as I know.

I have had it confirmed from one of the Maori TV guys that they won't be showing it in HD.

Not surprising really, it's quite an undertaking for a one off event

I heard on the radio RWC 3D was off the cards too as the company supplying the 3D tech couldn't cope.

I thought it was more due to poor ticket sales at the big venues where they were showing it in 3D.

As one of the "mugs" who pays the big dollars for HD Sport on Sky, I would be more than slighlty pi$$ed if others could watch the same thing on FTA at my expense Smile Smile
