Topic # 93530 23-Nov-2011 13:25 Send private message

I'm trying out a T1020 setup with external hard drive before I decide to give it to gran or not.

A couple of times while fiddling about in the timers/recordings menus or going/back&forth or something, working out how things work, somehow the video decoder seems to crash - the on screen menus, info bars, channel changing etc all works, audio works, but no video, just black.  Cycling to standby and back doesn't fix it.

The only way to fix it is to hold down the power button for a full power off and then power on.

Running the latest firmware.

Has anybody seen this before, is there some known way of triggering it I can warn gran against, and is there some easier way to resurrect it rather than physically going to the thing, holding down the power, waiting for it to shut down, then pressing power again.

Don't buy it! They're rubbish and you'll regret it for ever.
Sorry to be so blunt but I've tried so many Dish products and returned all but two.
Of these one needs a 'fiddle' on the aerial socket every so often to restore connectivity (probably fixable), and the other (a T1020) needs a retune very time you want Prime. It can only 'remember' 1-2 & 3. Not had your video crash, but it does have a strange NTSC-look to the colours when first turned on - for about 3 minutes. A/V output only, composite is OK. Also A/V is too big for the screen with some parts of Menus not fully visible, but still usable. Just another compromise.

A) I bought it used.  Either my gran gets it, or I probably keep it.
B) Going by your comment, I'd say you are thinking of an old firmware, the new firmware doesn't have that problem for me, it's a lot better and the menus are totally redesigned (I saw the old firmware before I updated it, and those menus were indeed bad).

Sounds like a faulty unit if you ask me. We have the latest firmware on ours, and dont't experience this. Also don't experierence the re-tuning for Prime.

I pity NZ when analogue finally goes and we have to use these hit or miss half-working devices - or replace all your TVs.

Not just Prime vanishing going today, TV3 as well.

After more testing, I wasn't able to reproduce the problem, so probably was just my mad button pressing.

I wrote a manual for my Gran to follow, if she actually will be able to is a different story, but it does seem quite easy to use.

James, that's a cute wee info guide Cool

I've flashed the new firmware and everything went as it should.... thanks. Maybe it'll keep all
the channels now. Have never tried recording via USB... instead it's connected to an analogue DVD-R (via A/V) and component video in on the TV. I'll give the USB record a tryout. New setup menu's etc very differerent.  I even (finally) found the blasted 'back' button on the remote too!  Only been three months....

I have the same problem with a new T1050PVR. However it only started since I updated the new software over the air a week or so ago.

I have contacted Dish TV support and they said it is a known problem and I should use the Factory reset option (code is 0000) then when the welcome screen appears disconnect the power for 5 seconds then reconnect and set up the channels again (it doesn't lose recorded programs).

Unfortunately I did all that and it still has the problem. Every day, I switch on and get sound (usually) but not video. Menus, etc.all work OK. My current fix is to hold down the on/off button on the front of the unit to force a warm reboot.

Waiting for a reply from Dish TV.

Dish TV support suggested:
-turning off the HDMI control option
-turning off the HDCP option
-turning off any HDMI control settings on the TV
-changing the HDMI cable

It sounded like they were clutching at straws but I did them all and it has worked. I was dubious about the HDMI cable change but I had a spare so I did.

I suspect it was something with the HDCP option. Even after I turned this off, it seemed to turn itself on again the next day. But after I turned it off twice, it did hold and now the problem has gone away.

The HDMI control settings on the Samsung are called Anynet.
