Jaxson: The really annoying thing is this situation exists simply because freeview do not broadcast EIT data on their terrestrial service.

Sony could also do their part and adopt MHEG5, an open standards protocol which is now used as the primary EPG format in a growing number of countries including Australia (Freeview), the UK (Freeview) and NZ.

The MHEG5 NZ specs are available freely from Freeview and if every other company producing gear can build in support why can't Sony be bothered doing this?

dontpanic42: I tweeted TV3 and they also claimed that the ball was in Sony's court.
So I have included @SonyNZ in that conversation to see if/what they come back with.

You guys are welcome to use the Doodle vote link if you like. It is also interesting Prime has not got back to me at all. The person to talk to at SCEE NZ is Dave Hine.

But the MHEG5 EPG is crap not a patch on the PlayTV EIT EPG. The MHEG5 EPG is slow and cumbersome compared to the EIT EPG. for SCEE to adopt the MHEG5 EPG would be a backwards step.

Sbiddle I do agree with you but I think it's worth providing some legacy support if you will.  No actually that's not quite the right way to put it, but more if you do go with the MHEG5 option then all the EPG's have to look the same, UNLESS freeview support companies extracting the data from it to display in their own graphical way.

I personally think the guide is OK, but I do accept the comments that it can be slow, slow to load even, and is really suited to be clear on a 20" 4:3 CRT TV and can look a bit ridiculous on a 50"+ screen.  PlayTV's EPG had some nice features, as does Windows Media Center for example, and these can only be made to work by extracting what is essentially now EIT data to inject into them.

Still haven't received a tweet back from @SonyNZ.

Does anyone know which Sony/Playstation twitter account would be the best to get a response from?

Yeah I had the same issue with Sony just ignoring me..

So I just emailed the tvtv people directly lol, since they're the ones providing PlayTV with the EPG and they're also owned by Sony.

Hopefully I get a usefull response from them!

Interesting to note I have had no reply from Prime at all, I emailed them direct and left a mesage on Face Book.
The Doodle Vote is now sitting at 175 so responce has been fantastic, I will keep running it for another couple of weeks due to high demand and I will then post the results on Sony, Prime and MediaWorks face book and email them all direct.

Keep voting guys.....
