I just bought a new DVB-S86 freeview box on TM from Satellitepro in Auck which I connected to the cable from my sky dish. (unplugged the sky decoder and plugged in the freeview) . The description said it was pre-tuned to Optus d1. I followed the installation procedure however I cannot get reception on any channel. All it get is Bad Signal. When I check the signal strength as per the satellite menu, it shows 86%. It shows d1 on the screen as the satellite in use. I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Can anyone help.

What do you have the LNB settings set to?

Most Sky LNBs use either 10750 or 11300 for the LO frequency - try those, and see how you go. Also, make sure 22kHz is off, LNB power on.

On the "Edit Satellite" screen it shows: Sat Name...............NZ D1 Sat longitude..........000.0 LNB power...............Auto LNB type.................Universal LNB Fre1.................09750 LNB Fre2.................11300 DISCEqC1.0.............Off DISCEqC1.2.............Off Strength ..................00% Quality ....................00% WHEN I ALTERED THE Fre1 and Fre2 to 11300 and 0975 respectively, the strength fluctuates around 72 and the quality around 68. I don't know if this helps you or not. NOTE: The it's the opposite to the above readings.

On the System Info screen is shows. the above readings plus... Symbol rate........12600 Polar .....V 22K Auto NOTE: I changed the 09750 to 10750 but it made no difference.

The most Critical thing when it comes to satellite is quality, you can have 87% signal but low quality and not get a signal. Ideally you want above 60% signal and 100% quality. Do you have a single throat LNB or a Dual throat LNB? If you have a dual throat you might need to turn on the 22Khz signal to get the correct LNB. regards John

Change the LNB type from universal - there are probably some presets in there, but you can probably also overide it manually as well. You need to set both the LNB frequencies to 11300, and see if that works. If not, try both set to 10750.

SATTV: If you have a dual throat you might need to turn on the 22Khz signal to get the correct LNB. regards John Given he's just unplugged the Sky decoder, and plugged this box in, I'd suggest that 22kHz should be off. If it's a dual throat Sky LNB, turning on 22kHz won't get D1, which is what the OP needs.

I turned on 22KHZ but made no difference so will turn off and have another play around. It almost looks like I bought a dud.

If it didn't work straight out of the box then it's most likely your LNB is using a different LO frequency to that which was used by the seller to setup. It's also possible your LNB is old and off frequency because it is failing in which case it may still be OK on the sky box but not the new box.

OK. Thanks.. yes I tried both fequencies being the same but no difference. What annoys me is when I do a satellite search, the tv screen shows some of the strengths and qualities between 86 and 96 so I know there is a strong signal coming in..... but alas..... the screen still reads the same "BAD SIGNAL". Only thing left now is for me to get a technition to check it and if it's faulty then send it back for a replacement.

OK Before calling in a Tech suggest you try checking out your Sky box and see what signal strength and quality you are getting for a comparison. Also check the LNB frequencies in your Sky setup.

Since people don't seem to have picked up on this... The symbol rate and polarisation indicate that you are looking at the strength/quality for a transponder that can't be received in NZ. The Freeview transponder frequencies are 12456, 12483 and 12671 MHz (add three zeroes on the end to convert to kHz, or six zeroes to convert to Hz). The other settings are symbol rate = 22500, polarisation = horizontal, 22k = off, FEC rate = 3/4. These and other details about the channels available from each transponder can be seen -->here<--.
