I have a JC Mathews DVG-TB01 Terrestrial Decoder that has been working fine for a few years now. It can tune in channels 40 to 46 but with bad sound and pixelation but they do actually exist. Probably low strength signal on those channels as the other channels up to 33 are fine. I am in Howick, Auckland I also have 2 other tv's, a Konka LDL23MS95a 23" and a Veon 2480LED-FHD 24". Both of these TVs will only tune in channels up to 33. 40 to 46 do not exist. I haven't found much info on these channels and as to where they transmit from and I can't be the only one having this problem? Anyone with more info, please advise.

Your problem will be signal related. What type of aerial and cabling do you have and where is it pointing? *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

If you are pointing at Waiatarua you will get channels 29, 33 and 45. If you are pointing at any of the in-fill sites you will get 28, 32, 40. Also check your antenna polarisation. http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/information/technical/digital-terrestrial-i-8.html Other odd channels (Chinese etc) may be available from the Sky Tower site. If you are missing one mux then you have an antenna problem or are in a fringe area.

Pointing at Waiatarua. Could swing it to the skytower and see if that improves. Looks like I'd have to go vertical for the skytower I think. Signal strength is 80 to 90% on the normal channels up to 33 but the 2 new LED tv's see nothing for the 40 to 46 channels whereas JC Mathews does at least tune them in. Just wondered if these new LED TV's have a limited channel list? The JC Matthews shows Channel 46 as 706Mhz. The Korean Channels seem to be 45 and 46.

The TVs have DVB-T H.264 tuners that are not restricted by Freeview in any way, i.e., they can receive any non encrypted DVB-T transmission. Ross ADSL2+ sync (Kbps): 11577/945, attenuation (dB): 33.0/16.9, Noise margin (dB): 11.5/11.5

Sorry. It's a UHF/VHF combined as I'm still using an analog tv. I will change once the analog stops. Signal strength is good though so I think the problem is that I am not pointing at the 40 to 46 transmitter.

Nope, all the signals are combined onto one antenna for transmission from the tower. Sounding more and more like a cabling issue, maybe something with your VHF/UHF combination wiring. If you can have the UHF aerial direct to one of your sets, see what happens with a retune?

Spyware: The channels that are missing on TVs are vertical on the Sky Tower so the behaviour is normal if using a horizontal polarised antenna pointing at Waiatarua. +1 Some of the channels you are missing are only on Sky Tower and not Waiatarua. If you replace your antenna with a UHF only you'll get beter reception. Combination antennas don't usually work well at UHF. Why still using analogue if you have Freeview?

I have a couple of issues with two DVB-T tuners, and found an easy work around. 1. I purchased a cheap TV from The Warehouse. It has a built in freeview tuner (DVB-T), but I couldn't get it to recieve the Asian channels, that the other TV's in the house could receive with ease. At first I thought I had weal signal strength, but I receive my signals from SKY TOWER, and it is only about 4 km from my home, and line of sight! The work around was easy... I told the TV setup that it was was not located in NZ, and set my country location to "Other". I then scanned and easily found the Asian channels with 100% signal strength, as expected. When set to NZ, the TV looked ONLY for the FREEVIEW approved channels, and the Asian channels here in Auckland are not on the EPG and the TV was simply not programmed to select them, so was ignoring them instead. 2. I bought a stand alone cheap Freeview decoder. It wouldn't receive channel 28 (started scanning from 29 if my memory serves me correctly). Anyway, all I had to do was tell it I was located in Spain! It then fully scanned both VHF (Unnecessary for NZ) and UHF bands, and found all the available channels. Conclusion: Not all the Freeview decoders work correctly if set to "NZ". Try telling then you are located elsewhere (Spain, or Other for example). In my case this forced a full scan and consequently allowed reception of all available channels. In the case of (1.) above, the only negative is that the channel numbering is different to normal, IE Asian DVB-T channel 40 might appear in channel numbering position 16 - but ALL channels are available.

Interesting answer Hiamie. I'll try along those lines later but I think it is that I am horizontal aimed at waiatarua. I still have an old analog tv down in the workroom for occassional use.

Horizontal polarization is correct for Waiatarua. The problem I had with not receiving channel 28 also wont affect you as channel 28 is used as infill at Sky Tower, Remuera, Pinehill(North Shore) and Waiheke Island. The tv from the warehouse that I have is the veon 24" I might just put a 2nd aerial up to get the skytower.

If you choose to receive from Sky Tower, you will need to change to vertical polarization.

Both of these TVs will only tune in channels up to 33. 40 to 46 do not exist. I think there may be some confusion here between what you refer to as channels and what is actually being tuned. Freeview from Waiatarua transmits 3 multplexes (Channels 29,33, and 45 UHF). If I understand correctly the channels you are referring to are actually the Numbers of the channels in your Freeview Channel list. The Tuners tune these 3 UHF channels and display the multiple channels contained ther as your channel list. When you say you are missing 40 - 46 I presume you mean they are absent in your channel list? If you are unable to tune Channel 45 UHF then you won't be receiving Prime, Maori, Trackside etc. Your STB tuner is probably receiving the non freeview channels because the tuner is a little more sensitive than the TVs and possibly the TV tuner may not be looking for them. I presume you can also see the radio channels at 50, 51 and 71 which are also on Freeview? I think you''ll find your missing channels are Asian channels, only Transmitted from Sky Tower and are not part of Freeview and you need a vertical antenna pointing at Sky Tower to receive them. I don't know what their channels or frequecies are. You could find them by searching at the Radio Spectrum Management website but you really need to know what you are searching for. Is there any particular reason you need to receive them?
