Although they have apparently sorted out the on going issues they were having with NZ Freeview I would still go Nvidia over ATI. Other then that go one up from low end, current generation will do all you need. Virtually anything currently on the market will be of sufficient power to happily deal with up to 1080p video. I agree with Nety though, nVidia seem to be more stable. (I very recently ditched a midrange ATI card for a high-end nVidia). Anything in the GTX4xx series and above will be more than adequate. "You are" = "You're" - Not "Your". "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There". You probably mean "lose" not "loose". There's no such word as "Alot". On the internet, wasting time, since '89.

Yeah 1080p is great but NZ freeview is 1080i. decoding the video is the easy part. These days pretty much any GPU out there will be fine but how well it will do post-processing such as de-interlacing without horrible artifacts is another question. Read some reviews for GPUs paying special attention to their 1080i performance. Visit My Blog!

I don't think you can get a GPU/freeview tuner combo though. need a separate GPU and separate tuner card. never had issues with Hauppauge and had a good run with both NVidia GPUs and the recent intel onboard gpus Need help implementing Microsoft CRM? Are you asking for graphics card or tv tuner GFX - I can recommend ATI HD6450, it's quite cheap ~$75 TV Tuner ( Analog TV/Radio and DVB-T )- Recommend Hauppague HVR2200 I think the new model is called HVR2220 or HVR2225 ; I'm pretty sure the new model is pretty much exactly the same, but it might pay to check on google. kiwijunglist: GFX - I can recommend ATI HD6450, it's quite cheap ~$75 +1 on this. I just installed one as my Intel HD300 graphics would not save settings. The 6450 is fantastic. Just a note though, if you display is small and in the middle of the screen, there is a scaling setting that neds to be slid UP to 0.

Hey there, When I first set up my HTPC I bought a reasonable ATI card, but forever had problems with pixelation and things (especially with HD channels). Every driver upgrade made it worse. Recently I replaced it with a low range nVidia GT 610. It's not flash, but it's new so benefits from the latest Purevideo HD technology etc. And it works perfectly!

Another vote for nvidia here, I am running a gt440 here and it just works. I also feel the picture quality is better. Recently i built a new htpc with intel hd 4000 graphics and ended going back to my 440 because of stuttering and pixelation issues.

I had the same issues with HD 4000 graphics and just solved them last night. Before, TV playback was blocky and horrible where my old 780G board used to cope fine. TV3 was bad, Four and ChoiceTV were completely unwatchable. Using the release version of ffdshow's software decoder fixed the problem but it was slow to start and occasionally got out of sync with the audio. Last night I grabbed the latest ffdshow-tryout which apparently has code from an Intel engineer to improve the DXVA decoding. Once enabled the problem is gone, all channels are near perfect apart from a second or two of green blockiness when they first start up. Forget to mention that if you go for HD6450 for HTPC, make sure it is 64bit and not the 32bit version. The 32bit version is not suitable for HTPC, I know that one of the ASUS HD6450s is 32bit, might be others as well.
