Looking for something that I can load an internal HDD but also plays nciely with content on NAS. Will the stuff stored on an NAS get all the flashy UI through NMJ like it would if it was on the HDD?

Should I consider something else?

Was also looking at the Mede8er but its UI looks dated

The Raspverry Pi is what you want. Load with Raspbmc you have a pretty GUI, ability to play files from an external HDD and of course the ability to stream from a NAS.
