Saw this today: "A platform update is available for Windows 7 SP 1" but the bit that caught my attention was this:

This article describes a platform update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This update improves the features and performance of the following components:
  • Direct2D
  • DirectWrite
  • Direct3D
  • Windows Imaging Component (WIC)
  • Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)
  • Windows Animation Manager (WAM)
  • XPS Document API
  • H.264 Video Decoder
  • JPEG XR codec

I guess the H.264 Video Decoder update could be applicable to us here in New Zealand running HTPCs with the built-in codecs. The problem is the download link goes nowhere at the moment.

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1564 ~ i5-520M ~ 4.00GB RAM ~ 500GB SATA HDD ~ Win7 Home Premium x64

Common misconceptions.

Thanks, but that is not the update you're looking for.

Did you move your hand in front of the screen when you typed that?

Have you tried it yet? Not too keen to be the first when it comes to a media centre.

Actually just tried installing on my laptop and it says it's already installed - it seems it was installed with the monthly update...
