I might wait for a bit, since I use NextPVR rather than WMC - to make sure directshow etc isn't busted.

I have heard this

"seems to break vmr7 for me, [no picture anymore] and makes vmr9 [not custom or fse] mess up aspect ratio and video doesn't completely fill screen.."

So MediaPortal/NextPVR users may experience issues - or it could have been this one users problem

You shouldn't be using VMR7/9 in Windows 7/8 because
1. It breaks hardware acceleration
2. It gives inferior picture quality vs EVR (actual difference may not be noticeable)

For XP, it is fine to use VMR7/9 as it is required for hardware acceleration

Users are also reporting no video for h264,

I installed this update and as you report the Microsoft H264 decoder no longer works.

This is for nextpvr which uses directshow.

Using Media Center with HDHomerun and all working fine. Also playing some H.264 content from other sources and no problems.

Yeah WMC I'd imagine is fine. Just external programs that use directshow that seems to be busted.
