I'm interested in purchasing myself a Popcorn Hour as my mobile media palyer and installing a 1TB Hard Drive to store all my Videos (mpg,avi,vob,Divx,Mp4,AVCHD, etc), Music (mp3,wma,wav etc) & Photos/Pictures (bmp,jpg,gif,png etc). What is the big benefits for me over a laptop that I currently use or can I use both..i.e connect them together for best of both worlds?

I think the benefit is to be able to use both simultaneously, in disparate locations in your house, wired is best.  It means you can use the laptop as your source machine and place the popcorn hour where you major display is , projector plasma whatever...

Like you said - The best of both worlds! Popcorn is simple to use - Perfect if it needs to be Wife Proof.
I have mine hard wired with internal HD of 320g - Far too small.
Bigger in this case is better.  Photo support via intneal drive is not as good as streaming via My ihome.But that bug is apparently gone in the next firmware release.
Music support is OK - Their are several User generated apps which are about to be released which should enhance this side of things.\
The Major winning point is that what ever way is your preferredmothod to connect/stream store your multimedia files - The PCH will support you. (Not a major exageration)

Just to offer a different POV. I have no storage in my PCH. All content is on a server which I serve up using swisscenter.  Main content I server up is video and audio and swisscenter is a much better interface than MyiHome.

I doubt if I would ever put a drive in my PCH - can't see why there is any reason to do so since it never leaves the HT cabinet.

YMMV as folks may say.

Adding a drive to a PCH adds a new perspective, especially if you're like me and like to limit the number of hard drives in a system (to keep heat down) but is in no way necessary.

On the other hand, with a hard drive in there, or a portable usb hard drvice connected, the pch is great for taking to someones house, on holiday to a show to try out their HD tvs.
