I've got Windows XP running on this motherboard with GBPVR. Some people say the motherboard does, some say it doesn't, support H.264 hardware acceleration. While I can watch TV3 DVB-T content fine, the AMD Dual core 5200 is showing about 80% utilisation... so I can assume it isn't using harwadre acceleration. I'm using the latest drivers/avivo 8.9. Although my setup seems to be able to cope with 1080i content (barely), just wondering if anyone has had any luck in getting H.264 hardware acceleration working for this motherboard (or the Radeon x1250)?

The X1250 chipset doesn't do H.264 hardware acceleration.

Thanks for that. That's what I thought. So when they says things like BlueRay and HD-DVD playback there must be some fine print somewhere, because if it takes 80% of a AMD dual core 5200 to do 1080i, then I probably won't have a smooth experience with full 1080p.

Remember the processor also doesn't have to deinterlace 1080p content, something that does take a fair bit of CPU load to do.

These boards aren't the best, I purchased one for my HTPC when they came out and they have been plagued by poor performance and terrible bios updates. It's without a doubt the worst mobo I've ever purchased and certainly a very poor product from Asus who have made plenty of good boards over the years.

Useful info... so which microATX AMD based board with integrated vidoe would you suggest for playback of H.264 HD playback?

None. I believe the new Intel boards have some promise but have yet to see any decent results of H.264 decoding that showed it performing close to an NVidia 8500.
