Topic # 86498 7-Jul-2011 16:26 Send private message

Hi All

I know that this topic has been done ad nauseam, however I
believe it is due to this fact that I am struggling to find accurate and definitive
information to solve my problem.

I’m running MediaPortal 1.2.0b on Windows 7 Home Premium x64
with a Microsoft RC6 remote control and receiver.

After a clean install of MediaPortal, I choose MediaPortal
Configuration, Remote, and select “Use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard”.

By doing this, the remote will work within MediaPortal, but
some of the key buttons won’t work such as the “back” button, or any of the
play, stop etc.

To remedy this, I have found that if you again go into MediaPortal
Configuration, Remote, and select General HID tab, there is an option “Use general
HID device” and this gets more buttons going.

Annoyingly, the one button that remains not working is the “more/info”
button. Also, the “recorded TV” and “Guide” buttons which I used a lot don’t
work either.

Does anybody have a simple answer to this question that has
been plaguing me? I will upload logs and a photo of my remote and receiver shortly.

If its a proper MCE remote, the only thing you need to do, is turn on
"Use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard? in MePo Config, Remotes

No other settings are needed,

Most likely if you have buttons that are not working in mediaportal on the remote, the remote and or receiver is not a actual MCE version

Some pics of it and the receiver will help

Also, make sure you dont have any other software installed like LMRemoteMap etc that might be interferring.

Which model of MS remote do you have? Can you give us a link to an image?

Very strange it should just work. Have to checked to see if there is anything missing in the mapping for any of the buttons when you have MCE remote. selected?

http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/15_Customization/00_Configuration/8_Remote/Mapping_...

Also try doing a "Reset" within mapping

Can you remap the non-functional buttons inside MP config to get them working?

I read a poster who stated he thought his remote was an RC6 but was actually an Hauppuage clone remote (is the USB receiver plastic cover black or white?). You could also try the Hauppuage option in MP Config>remotes to see what happens.

Looks like the exact same remote I have on my Win7 box with MediaPortal and I didn't have to do anything except tick the box in the settings to tell MP I had the remote.

Have you tried the remote in Windows Media Center to see if all the buttons are actually working?

Yes, works flawlessl... I honestly can't understand it.

Does your "Guide" button work for example?

The other thing it doesn't do is launch MP with the Green Button, despite having the mpTray running...

Yup all buttons work without any setup required except having mpTray running and ticking the box in MP settings to let it know which remote it is.

Have you tried any other versions of MediaPortal?

Have you checked if any services that might conflict are running?

Firstly, inside MPconfig>additional 3rd party checks

Also, MP TV Server Config>additional 3rd party checks

Never used any version of W7 so don't have a clue what services you have. Could do a Google to see if anything with W7 services + MCE remote comes up

Hi 1gkar

Yes, I've actually un-installed Media Centre and have confirmed this in both "3rd party checks".

You do raise a valid point though with what else might be in the background. Will do some fishing and come back to the forum.

What OS do you run MediaPortal on?

Your're not the ir server suit are you? If not maybe give it a go! I.e. install irss and the mediaportal plugin for it. Disbale mce in MP config and configure irss to for MCE remote.

Hi Guys

I just wanted to give you an update and say that I have found a solution... of sorts.

It did come in the form of IRSS, but not with the Microsoft Receiver. I have an Antec Fusion V2 case which has a iMon receiver built in. While I had this unplugged, I plugged it back in and unplugged the Microsoft receiver.

Well, what do you know, all the buttons work perfectly with IRSS installed and using the iMon receiver. If I try to use the Microsot receiver, nothing changes...

Go figure?

Go figure: I saw a thread where the poster had exactly the opposite results, for the same issue. Glad you got it sortedLaughing
