Hey there, I've just been setting up a new router and 2degrees 3G connection for a client on Remuera Road in Auckland (near Flight Center/Glengarry in the shopping part). Last week we were getting pretty decent speeds of 3.5 down and over 1 up, however today I'm lucky to get the 0.16 below. The set up is a Vodafone K3715 with a TP-Link TL-MR3420 router sharing it over WiFi and Ethernet to two laptops, a printer and Eftpos machine. At the moment (even with just one device connected) sending a 6mb PDF is taking hours. Is there anything going on? This is pretty much a dealbreaker for these people. World famous Twitter hacker.

Yea that seems pretty low. Have you tested in the same location with other devices?

looks like it's handed back to release99 and this generally happens when you reach max users on HSUPA please note I am guessing Systems Engineer Vodafone NZ http://forum.vodafone.co.nz

Also, as stated in several other threads, if you're using Speedtest to tell you your upload speed is good, bad or indifferent then your mileage may not just vary, it may conspire to leave the real number axis and scurry madly all over the complex number plane. UPA only kicks in after a certain amount of data has been transferred on uplink. Speedtest doesn't transfer enough to reliably kick it in. iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw! heavyusr: Out of curiosity how much is the maximum number of users? That's a very 'how long is a piece of string' question. Ultimately it comes down either a) absolute hardware capacity on the sector, or more likely b) what the sector is licensed for. (b) changes all the time as the network is optimised and reoptimised. Licenses follow the users - if Remuera is overloaded today it might get new licenses next week; but in 2 months time if it has gone a bit quiet, some of those might get moved elsewhere. iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw! Got decent speeds, unfortunately I didn't have any non-microSIM devices on me to test the 2degrees one in. I only did the Speedtest after waiting 30 or so minutes to send a 6.2mb PDF via email, did try resetting all of the devices/directly plugging the USB modem in to the laptop. Testing everything else seems to line up with a lack of upload bandwidth. Zeon: If that's the case it may be worth trying Vodafone/Telecom XT They're not quite as cost effective as 2degrees :P I'm going to leave it for a little while to see if the issue disappears. What sort of usage are you doing there? I'm thinking 5.3Mbps D/L is looking more appealing to the masses than VF's 1.76

I think the issue is their upload speed, which makes life really crap if you love attaching documents to email messages and using TCP/IP based Eftpos terminals. I'd recommend doing an upload to an FTP server(preferably locally) with a file of at least 2MB in size to see if the upload speed increases. If it doesn't, id recommend doing the same thing after say 9pm on any given night to rule out user congestion. If you still have the same abysmal upload speeds, 2deg may have removed the license for HSUPA off the cell you are connecting to.
