curiously it shows no connection but looking at signal strength it shows -71dbm to -105dbm... generally around -85 dbm..

Sorry, no. If the location is within a Vodafone LAC that is excluded, then you cannot roam onto it.

iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

so am i correct in assuming that that means it's a 3g vodafone tower?  and because it doesn't have 2g it won't let me on?  or is it just because it's in "west auckland" which is considered an area that 2degrees have some towers in?

on vodafone's coverage map it says 1/4 for calling/2g/2.5g, and 3/4 for 3g broadband.   on 2degrees it seems to be in a minimum coverage area, but it can't pinpoint address.

does that mean if 2degrees enabled 3g on their own gear i'd be sweet?

then why does it give 2 to 3 bars then no signal with very intermittent connectivity?

maybe there should be a tower at every adsl cabinet :)

No everything is working as designed it's a Vodafone customer only cell as Salty has pointed out about the LAC

Ahh.  So that's just about 2degrees not wanting to pay vodafone to use that tower?

It's not about money or a single tower

So it's a policy thing? Like Auckland we'll do our own towers, Vodafone can be used for Dunedin?

Although that said, I do seem to remember getting coverage out at Piha which I think was roaming.  (most of the way to Piha doesn't have coverage though)

For Dunedin central or all of Dunedin?  What about Mosgiel?  I mean - I don't know where 2degrees coverage is and isn't.  I just know that it seemed to work okay in Christchurch, but seems pretty patchy in Auckland.  I realise Auckland is a lot more spread out than Christchurch.  But I do remember that roaming works fine in Stanmore Bay but seems to not work properly in Titirangi/Woodlands Park/Laingholm,
