Neiljd55: Has anyone flashed the latest release XXELKC from androidadvice.com. Apparently it is an official stock release and will keep warranties intacked

Using anything other than Kies or OTA updates to update firmware will void your warranty. I have had it confirmed by Samsung that even flashing a stock rom from a different region will void your warranty as Odin is not intended for end user use, it is an engineering tool.

If you're going to claim warranty on a phone, make sure it is running the original rom with matching product code and CSC and make sure the flash counter has been reset (triangle away - use at your own risk). Otherwise you will have a very hard time getting your warranty claim approved.

I am not sure if this issue was discussed under this topic or the GSIII topic but if the hardware is faulty and is not caused by the rom that you flashed your phone with then you have a chance of claiming warranty but then again it would be a long battle proving that the hardware fault hasnt occured due to the "unofficial" rom. So yeah, flashing always has a risk factor attached to it that you dont have a fall-back in case of an unfortunate event of faulty hardware..

I'm quite disappointed that 2degrees are taking so long

Neiljd55: Which one are you running. Excuse the question but how do you install. The zip file goes on the ext sd card but odin gets the tar file from the pc and this file can't be unzipped to the pc. Bit confused

The official firmwares are flashed via Odin. Custom firmwares like Wanamlite V5.1 which I'm running as flashed via Clockwork Mod Recovery.

To get clockwork mod installed, you need to firstly flash a kernel modified with root and clockwork mod. This is done via Odin. Once that's done, you'll have clockwork mod installed and you can then flash the custom rom.

I'd recommend checking this guide:

http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html

Remember.. it's at your own risk.

you wouldnt happen to know where to find the stock rom for 2degrees i9300 4.0.4

if you have the AP, CP, and CSC, then you should be able to download it from the Samsung Kies server yourself using this guide [How to] Download/Backup your samsung stock firmware from Samsung servers including your provider packages

Have tried that method twice without a positive outcome and the firmware type you quoted isnt the stock one for my phone strangely enough (the snapper app is available for me) unless the software isnt working correctly for me, any chance you could spare a few seconds to do this??  Many thanks,

Not sure that makes a lot of sense..? A stock firmware is a stock firmware. If you put anything older then the 2D XXALF2 (4.0.4) on there, it will do an OTA update anyway
