networkn: Yah because neither Telecom or VF already did that.. Oh wait...

It took time for both to build nationwide networks.

And your point?

And yours. If you don't like two degrees why not just come out and say it.

1 million -- how cool is that!

They say one third of their customers have brought 021 and 027 numbers with them. So there are two thirds of a million 022 numbers out there. I don't know anyone with one. Where are they all?

My point is simply, yay they got a million customers and no profits. They have "bought" market share, and are offering less and charging less. I wonder what will happen when/if they ever have a truly comparable network, in terms of the pricing structures they offer? I would expect the gap to close.

My point was, arguing yours, that people aren't not moving to 2D solely because they are lazy. There are a lot of reasons to stay with the other providers, and price isn't the primary motivating factor for a lot of people.

<shrug> Haters gonna hate, I guess, but I have spent two thirds of my career so far not at 2degrees, and I can tell you unequivocally that there are no balls that 2degrees has dropped that haven't been dropped by every other carrier before them.

Personally being an integral part of building a mobile network from literally nothing has been the highlight of my career, and probably always will be. Sure, new technologies will come along - at some stage I imagine we'll build LTE, and LTE-A and onwards for whatever follows, just like everyone else - but there won't be any greenfields networks down this neck of the woods again, I don't think.

iPad Air + iPhone 5S + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

networkn: Not much point in 1M customers if you can't make any money :)

Yes yes I know it's not as simple as that!

That will be their next announcement!

Why all the negativity.

My comment was supposed to be positive. I think these guys will do really well and hope their next announcement is about profitability!

Interesting point.

I got a free SIM way back. Used it for a week and put the phone in a drawer (had a work phone at the time also). It will have expired a long time ago now. I wonder if 2 degrees counts me as a customer?

Good on them, a million 'customers' is a big number in NZ. I just wonder how many of that million 2Degrees makes anything off, or is it just a nice statistic. Not hating on them, and I am sure VF and Telecom use similar statistics to say how many customers they have.

When 2 Degrees initiallty launched there were of course many ups and down in their services but then with time, they are improving alot. I switched to 2Degrees 2yrs ago and then switched back to vodafone coz they had better service / 3G reception & data plans and all. So that was a reason to stay with Vodafone

But lately 2 Degrees is doing really good. I didnt face any hiccups with their services / reception / data speed issues or anything so far. So I guess everything takes time..

Well comments in other threads and other forums, seem to indicate the issues are ongoing, but hey mileage may vary, if it's meeting your needs that's great.

For the haters out there if you are building a business from stratch and are going to invest significant money it will take time to make a return. Not making money in 3 years of operation for a Telco is very normal. Customer number is a milestone and one that 2degrees should be proud of, and more so it shows the right trend for the business. What would life be like without 2degrees?

One thing is for sure and that is every mobile user in NZ is better off because of 2degrees - no argument.

I think they measure the amount of legitimate connections by cellular activity in the last 3/or possibly 6 months.

A fair chunk of them (no idea howmany – maybe 100k?) will be sims cards in mobile broadband sticks or ipads which have a number allocated to them but which of course you never dial the number for.
