groynk: So, the price wars have finally gotten into full swing! Great for consumers

I would just like to say that this entire thread represents a missed opportunity for someone to use their best Yoda voice and say 'Begun, the price wars have...'

The $19 Data pack is almost nice, but I find I use between 400 and 700 text messages a month so the 300 included in the pack is not enough.

DjShadow: Also consider the Xmas Sales season is approaching, telcos will do their best to make sure their sim cards are in Santa's sack :)

Unfortunately these are usually rubbish time limited offers. I dont care if i get 100 minutes free for a month or two.  Seems though that this is what works because the marketing departments continue to churn out offers like these.

Possible theory: 2degrees could tack on a lump of say, 500mb of broadband zone data to their data combo, which would prevent the likely comparatively greater cost they have to pay for data on the vodafone network.

Isn't this also a rubbish limited time offer? Looks like it's just a short-term offer to get people to switch to Telecom prepay. They're not locked in but they may as well be because if they stop it (or if they forget to topup etc.) they lose the great deal. And, if they bought a new phone to switch they're even worse off.

I don't know if 2degrees/vodafone will need to respond to this unless it becomes permanent.

It is a renewable product. So if you run out of credit its goes on hold and when you top up it gets renewed.
Buy a new phone will not matter as long as your number doesnt get disconnected.

The phone is just a devbice what connects you to the network is the sim card.

According to the terms and conditions "If you cancel the BIG Value Pack or it fails to renew due to low credit, it will be lost permanently and cannot be repurchased after the promotional period" so I'm not sure that's right.

Also, my point about a new phone is due to compatibility/frequency issues. I would have to buy a new phone to take advantage of this offer. If I lost this offer I would be in a worse position since I had to buy a new phone to get on it and now (potentially) that phone can't be used with 2degrees/vodafone, so I either have to buy another new phone or stick with whatever plans (good or bad) Telecom has at that time.

semigeek: How about it 2degrees? 60 mins calling, 5000 texts and 500mb for $19/$20 a month.

Would be a good response to Telecom's latest offering

You're right - that would be a great response to Telecom's latest offering.... ;-)
