Pat your mate on the back. Even if we do say so ourselves the network is fabulous.
It's been thanks to the hard work and perspiration of nearly 800 incredibly skilled and talented people over the past 3 years to get us to this stage.

No idea if it was EDGE or not. Just relaying information from the conversation I had, which I thought was interesting (and not confidential).

I just hope the rates are as nice as the sim card pricing (ie, sane in comparison to TC/VF), and they can cater for various needs. Their phone line up is interesting though [/tease]

I guess and hope the pricing will be:

*** $4 for best mate/month or $10 for 4 bestmates in the family/month
*** $5 for 2000 text message/month
*** $.19 cent per min for calling within 2Degrees and $.49 cent to any networks in NZ
*** $.10 cent for sending a text message

lol at some really optimistic people.

My stab in the dark:
60 (or 70)c/min calling mobiles
maybe something like 30c/min calling landlines
15c text to non 2degrees
5c text to 2degrees (while writing this I realised they said they would treat all mobile networks equal?)
$10/100mb

Even $10 per GB would be great, but I doubt it will happen that way.

2degrees can't expect to get a huge amount of customers if their pricing is the same as Vodafone/Telecom.

They would be stupid to copy the $1 for 10mb offer that Vodafone introduced...only Telecom would do that (and they did)

I think they'll be more creative and come up with their own new ideas.

I'd be very happy with 49c calling to any network 24/7.

$2 for 1GB isn't being realstic, most fixed line providers charge more than that.... keep it realistic here.

The only thing that will get me to move to 2degrees (and all my family) is if they have cheap group callng/texting deals, like Vodafones Family/Bestmates.

The rest doesn't matter, i'll just join them because they are the new guys :)

No one has said this yet, but I have a feeling they will start charging like overseas telco's, making you pay to receive txts and calls. I hope 2Degree's dont pull this move.

The reason that this exists in overseas markets such as the USA and Canada is because they don't use the Calling Party Pays (CPP) pricing model like most other Western countries. This means mobile numbers are local calls and mobile operators don't receive any fees for terminating calls on their network so charge for these.

The fact we have CPP and operators receive money (MTR) means there exists no logical reason at all why 2 degrees would go down this path.

How much money do they have to 'buy' customers ie. offer low rates at a loss to attract customers. And if they do that, how long till they have to increase prices or will they get enough economies of scale to keep them low.

They said simple and not having to choose friends so I dont predict differentiate rates:

69c per minute any network (just because I like that number)
19c per text with a cap of say $10 per month
$1/10mb for data (this isnt their selling point in the early days so they wont try to compete there.
