If you don't use data (take my partner for example) I don't think it will really worry you, and I think the market that 2 Degrees is primarily targeting uses calls/SMS far more.

Yep their Niche market users would tend to be those that that dont use/require a data plan.
There advertising is heavily reinforcing voice calls to mates and friends at a cheaper cost. 2 Degrees of separation etc !!!

You are comparing prepay with a plan...... fail 2DM shouldn't even be on that graph.

slippers, those are all prepaid data plans... so they are fair game.

'True' SMS price comparsions (not just the casual rates) will also be very interesting to see.

They aren't targetting data users yet, which is of course a shame for us gadget minded folk. Happened to be talking with their Chief Engineer at dinner the other night and he is of the view they will have 3G rolled out before year end where they current have a footprint and once that is complete data will be an option for them. They have just been blown away by the response they have got to date. I really liked their view that they aren't going to be worrying about competing head to head with TNZ and Vodafone but to focus on changing the business model. Seems to be working so far, but I agree that delivering on it is key. Be interesting to see what paradigm shifting plans they might pull out for us data hogs!

Beyond the pricing plans that are putting me off, as I am a heavy data user, the total and utter lack of response I've had from them is what is stopping me. They could turn around tomorrow and offer a very attractive data pricing pack, I still wouldn't switch.

While I realise that there are growing pains when launching a new product/service, I think that the fact they've nearly totally ignored me from the moment there were issues is a loud and clear message that they aren't interested in my business.

I have to agree. I was on the phone to their helpdesk, the person on the other end blatently told me I was lying, that they didn't have a website and that I'm full of it.

I'm not a Vodafone fan because they've done similar.

I call Telecom, they ask me how my day has been and actually make conversation while theyre looking at stuff, I don't get put on hold for 15 minutes. I know I'm playing the devils advocate by saying it, but Telecom have been good to me. Vodafone has not. 2degrees has not. Black+White has not.

Your experience may vary.

Wow, that's quite an unjustified beat up. I'd be very surprised to think the part of the market they are targeting is 'niche'.

They've been very clever about targeting the bulk of the market, certainly in volume (and probably margin considering text mark up). Data users are the niche, consider the forum you are posting in and of course the view will be skewed.

If anyone has sales or market data to the contrary I'd be keen to see it.

To your original point though cheaper data would be nice such that you wouldn't have to think about cost everytime you access data with your smartphone. I think complaining would be justified once we've picked over their full service range but they haven't launched that yet.

it's for people who call a bit everywhere, text moderately everywhere. then it's cheap as. people like me. UNFORTUNATELY, my other half texts heaps to her VF mates, she's on the VF txt prepay thing, and she txts me a lot. SO - i'm sticking with VF EASY 20. $17 a month - oh well, i could've saved $7 a month on 2D but i cant move.

I think this is a fair cop, simply they are not catering for this market, so as someone who only uses their mobile for approx 4-5 texts per month and approx 80mb of data I too will not be going to 2D until they offer something for me. I only with my phone could be used on Telecom XT :(

2Degree's data plans are not really that bad for the intermittent type of low-usage from a phone, they seem to only charge in order of cents for tiny bits of data (100KB being 5c) which is fantastic for my misery usage.

I think 2degrees have positioned themselves very well in the "low to moderate user" bracket and I'm sure they will later release on-account with much better higher-use plans.

If they charged per-second after the first minute for voice calls, I'd probably switch.
