scottjpalmer:
keewee01: I could be wrong, but I thought all of 2degrees infrastructure was in the North currently?

So if that is true, and if you are in Christchurch, you'd be roaming on VF's network anyway? (which would add more factors into it)

Just a thought.

2degrees own network covers AKL, WLG, CHCH and Queenstown

Cool, thanks for that Scott.

Now if only they'd push it a little further South from Christchurch...

I can only agree, you get what you pay for. I myself am not on 2degrees, but I suggested to my mother that she move from VF to 2Degrees because of the better pricing structure, I'm sad to say it was a bad move.

My mum can't receive TXT messages to her ported 021 number from many international locations including South Africa, but when these people send to an 022 number, there is no issue, so the problem appears to be with MNP numbers.

I logged a fault almost 4 weeks ago via email, responses were 1 a week, 2 at most and where you get one person willing to help and proves part of the fault, then another giving a standard response and telling you to go away. I tried calling them Friday and gave them a discription of the problem, they said a manager would call me back that afternoon, but still nothing and it's tuesday.

The problem I face is not only TXT's from real handsets (overseas) not reaching 021 ported numbers, but also from every carrier I have tested for websms.co.nz , delivering to 022 or 027 users on 2degrees is not an issue.

I have asked them to speak with VF and see what the cause is because it's not only affecting websms.co.nz but also real handset traffic where it's clearly an issue between VF and 2Degrees porting.

There is an issue with the whole porting system, from an international perspective. If she ported to Telecom she would have the same issue. Basically the sms would probably have terminated to vf and they dont know what to do with it so the sms was just deleted.

On the issues that the forum starter has talked about, I have not had any issues since being a customer in Feb.Maybe 2degrees are focusing their antennae at the ground...

Hi please can you DM me your 2D # and fault ref if you've got it and I'll look into it.  We've got agreements with the following networks in South Africa - MTN, Cell C and Vodacom so you should be able to send and receive from those networks ok. Other than those we can't promise every text will get through, we'll deliver but it's up to the other network to pass it on to their customer.

Cheers

@icepicknz

Sounds like you should be more pissed with VF for not passing the SMS through not at 2degrees for not receiving it!

Everyone does: it's called Beam Tilting, your network doesn't work very well without it.

iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw!

Problem is I cannot log a fault with VF as it needs to come from the carrier, and I've been given the run around from 2Degrees not contacting VF.

I have PM'ed 2Degrees hre on gekzone, lets see if anything comes of it

I have tried setting my network manually to 2D as per info from 2D customer care on here.

We will see how it goes i guess.

TBH if it doesnt improve in the next month i will be forced to trail back to VFNZ, as i need to phone for work etc etc.  It is just unacceptable for me to be missing calls when im free to take them!

Sadpanda though cos as I say I really dig 2Degrees!

Try it without using a ported number... Portability has flaws.
2degrees is new and they still have holes in their network, maybe wait a few years lol.

Very true, but it's hardly a 'get what you pay for' bad service from 2degrees situation if it's VFNZs ineptitude that stops text being delivered onto to correct network when the number has been ported from them.

It would probably be better for your mother to use a 2degrees native number so she can guarantee receiving the texts. I know that is a bit of a pain but then she could benefit from the 2degrees pricing and know it should be working at its best.

I'm sure 2degrees on here will do their best to help though

Are you sure the SMS is not getting passed to 2D with the HOC on the front and somewhere this is meant to be removed then passed onto MS

Yes, 2degrees said they ran traces and didn't see anything coming from VF, they ran tests directly themself.

Were they checking with HOC attached or not attached?

No idea, I had the following from Matthew Hart "We are unable to see any SMS hitting us" for the MNP tests. I had requested SMMP and ss7 traces to be done

so, when are you guys (VF/TELE/2D) going to fix the whole porting system?
I have read so many places how annoying it is, it's just letting people down.
