Looking at bringing my iPhone 4 over from XT to 2degrees to save some money, but just wondering what people's experiences have been like using an iPhone on 2degrees, particularly in Auckland where I live, but keen to hear from people in other places as well.

Interested mostly in hearing about network speeds and how strong the 3G signal is, and if dropping down to 2G is an issue or not when going in to buildings, etc, like it was when I was with Vodafone.

I have used an iPhone 4 on XT and 2d in Auckland.
Generally on XT I had 4-5 bars and hardly ever less than 3 bars
On 2d I often only have 1-2 bars quite a bit but usually stays on 3G where I use it.

2d speeds are usually 1.0-2.5mb/s down and 0.3 up. I don't know if 2d have HSUPA.
On XT I would usually get 2-5mb/s down and 0.5-1.5 up.

Non of this is scientific testing just my observations.

Also on 2d I found I am usually put down to 2g when in a call, so not data while talking.

That said 2d are a lot cheaper so I am happy to use them.

I have an iPhone and an iPad on 2degrees, and it's great. :) Shameless plug 4tw!

OP, just in case you don't know, I am a 2d employee.

I can't comment on Auckland but I do a lot of travelling elsewhere and generally the experience has been good. Native 3G coverage in Wellington and Christchurch seems to be fine, and if 3G is unavailable then dropping down to EDGE still leaves you with acceptable performance for general smartphone applications. I'm still using a 3GS and I find that Vodafone is lacking 2100MHz 3G coverage in many areas, however since your iPhone 4 supports 900MHz 3G you'll probably find this less of a problem.

Really my only gripe with 2degrees is their insistence on using text messaging to send alerts and to renew data packs. To me this seems archaic and awkward, and it often leaves me with a barrage of text messages that I struggle to deal with when I'm busy so it would be much easier if they developed an iPhone app, or even if they just extended the functionality on their web site.

Can say it works ok in Hamilton but relying on Vodafone's coverage here (3G coverage could be better)

+1 2degress.

1 iPhone first gen, 1 iPad, 1 generic nokia all on 2degrees.
Very happy over all with the service, the website and your2degrees interface for monitoring usage and topping up is very easy, just reply to the reminder text.

Hi, there was an issue with sending MMS (pxt) over New Years (Happy one btw!) which is now fixed. If you're still having issues please call us on 0800 022022 so we can check the settings.
Cheers
