"Three and a half years ago, 2 Degrees sent a letter asking to put up a tower at the back of her section. They offered her $7000.
?I didn?t know if this was a lump sum or to be paid each year. I rang the person back and said ?No, no, no, no, I don?t want a tower anywhere near my property?.
?And now I have one outside my kitchen window ? so really I didn?t have a say.?

Maybe she should have taken the 7 grand!

“I think, they think it’s okay, ‘we don’t live there so it doesn’t bother us’ – they are sitting on a toilet constipated, thinking who can we annoy next.”

+1 This always cracks me up. I bet if they didn't put the tower there she'd have a letter to the Ed complaining about coverage.

In two months: "Tauranga residents complain of lacking coverage from Vodafone and 2degrees"

Quote from the future: "These companies don't think of us, customers. They never come here to listen to our problems, and the biggest one is the lack of coverage around this town".

This is right outside the window and her property will have dropped in value.

Would anyone be happy?

I think these towers on lamposts are a great idea, because many people don't know what they are. As soon as they find out however, they moan their heads off.

Everyone says NIMBY, and yet they will be the first to complain about lack of cell coverage, Funny no one seems to notice towers from vodafone and telecom though.

I stand corrected then, that was a bit of an understatement. It just seems people are being more aware nowadays.

Also so much for remaining anonymous, my bored self took a couple of minutes to find the location and who they probably are (totallynotastalker )

From the 2degrees tour I was on about a year ago, it was said that council's prefer the lamp post style cellsite, and it's much easier getting resource consent for one as opposed to a "normal" full size site.

Yeah this is a good point. They are obviously much less flexible in terms of upgrades - But does this style greatly impact coverage of the site or make it more complex to deploy? ie. aside from space for upgrades in the future, is there any major disadvantage of them? I noticed telecom don't seem to use many of them (i'm yet to see any i know for sure are telecom), vodafone seem to have quite a few, and 2degrees is using them for a lot of the new hamilton network

It's interesting to see this claim being used all the time in the cellsite battle - and yet not a single person seems to be able to produce a single piece of evidence to back the claim.

Surely there must be an anti cellsite campaigner somewhere in the country who has followed through with their threats of moving and has has sold their house and got and sold for well under it's value. Why haven't we heard from them? Smile

SaltyNZ would happily pay well under the odds for a nice house with a cell site out the front. :-D

iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

On what basis do you think a property with a celltower has the same value as without?

My reasoning is that there are many people who dislike celltowers and this reduces the buyer pool for such a property. A buyer will always look for reasons to reduce price, and a classic would be, 'hhm, nice house, shame about the celltower, will offer you 20k less".

Just because you are unaware of evidence does not mean there is none.

In fact, there have been studies and they do show statistically significant decreases in property value although every situation is different (outlooks, distance etc) and the decrease is not huge.
