Hey guys, Im a mobile data noobie. I have the lumia 800 and understand that the triangle means that I'm outside my "home network" and data won't work unless I enable "roaming". I was wondering if this costs extra over the 50c p/MB? I'm sending this from my phone now...lets hope I don't gets slapped with a 900 dollar bill. Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

where exactly are you roaming? some countries may have different rates.. if you're overseas then its quite likely you're paying more than 50c/mb check out http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/why-2degrees/roaming for charges check out http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/why-2degrees/roaming/data-packs for data packs you can buy for overseas (its still usually cheaper to buy a local sim and use that instead. in the US you can get a prepay at&t sim with unlimited internet for the month for $50) Need help implementing Microsoft CRM? I'm an hour north of Auckland. I wish I had the cash to roam over-seas! :D As soon as I travel out of Auckland I have to enable roaming In order to use mobile data. Will check those links now, thanks! Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

You need to tell us a bit more about your plan. 1. Prepay or postpay/pay monthly? 2. If you are on prepay, get one of the national data packs here: http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay/pricing/value-packs/national-data 3. If you are on prepay and often outside 2degrees zone, consider getting the $19 data combo here: http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay/pricing/value-packs/19combos 4. If you are on postpay, check your plan as it is usually bundled with some amount of national data / 1gigabyte of data

You own a smartphone, therefore either: 1: buy a data plan to suit your needs 2: turn off mobile data and exclusively use wifi when in range (home/work etc) You will cause yourself bill shock if you continue to use mobile data at the casual rate. Smartphones generally eat data when you are least aware.

Thanks guys for posting the links to the value packs. OP - if you have any question on these please let us know. You'll have to work out which data pack or plan is best value for you. Our $39 and above Pay Monthly Plans have a 1GB National Data bonus if you sign up by 7 Oct. The Mobile Broadband packs only work within our MBB zones - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/mobilebroadband/broadbandzones. 1GB pack ($20) lasts 1 month, 3GB ($50) lasts 2 and the 12GB lasts 6 months. The 50MB ($6) and 100MB ($10) National Data packs both last 1 month and can be used in or outside of our MBB zones, just make sure 'Data Roaming is on if using the NDP's. All our packs auto-renew on Prepay on expiry or when they're low (35MB for MBB and 5MB for National Data packs if you have enough credit. If you're on Pay Monthly only the 1GB MBB pack and NDP's renew on the start of your billing cycle. If you're joining Pay Monthly perhaps set up 'Spend Control' with an amount you don't want to go over each month - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/paying-your-bill/spend-control. Hi, I only just found out about this "roaming" data, and was almost at the point of switching providers due to no phone data while outside the main city areas (which means no Google maps, and no internet while on the road!!). But does this include value pack national data (such as that from the $19 text combo and $19 data combo) as it I can't find anywhere that actually says its does?? Cheers, Sam

National data includes roaming data. Broadband zone data doesn't

Thanks for all the replies guys! Including 2degrees! I'm well aware of bill-shock and the fact mobile data will be used when my phone feels like it if it is on. My original question was with regards to the last two posts. I'm not over-seas. I just noticed without "roaming" enabled on my phone, I could not get internet on my phone out of town. I was simply wondering if the fact I had to enable it meant I was using a different service compared to the one in town that costs extra, or if everything in NZ was the same prices on 2degrees regardless of the area i was in. I don't think a mobile pack would suit my use. I use my WiFi at home and the call centre's WiFi when in at work. I only use mobile data for the bus sign thingy on the Maxx website or send an email when walking around town. Otherwise i make a concious effort to ensure it is off at all times and enable it when i desperately need to. :) Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

Just my opinion, but this seems an odd way to use a smartphone. Having invested in this cool piece of technology, why not just pay the $19 for the 2d data or text plan and enjoy using the phone? "Roaming" simply means that you're using a different network (in this case Vodafone, since 2d doesn't have any towers where you are). In the past the only way to get on a different network was to go overseas so the word "roaming" is often taken to mean "using a phone overseas". In your case, you have three options: 1. Leave roaming data turned off 2. Turn it on and pay the casual rate (which I think is 50c/MB) 3. Get a national data pack

It comes in handy for work emails, when I'm bored or for following up on things with the calander and such. I'll get mobile data at some point though. Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!
