Not sure how tricky this is going to be.

I've got an SRP520 series cisco router (I know a few of you use these).  Connected to that, I use a K3805-Z vodem mobile modem.  I use this one, rather than the 2degrees modem since it has an external antenna attachment.

The issue I'm having is sometimes the vodafone signal is coming through stronger and it's connects to that instead of 2degrees.

Since I'm on a Mobile Broadband Zone (for waaaay better 2degrees rates) it wont connect.

The question is: Can I force the router or modem to ONLY connect to the 2degrees carrier no matter what other signals are present?

Thanks for your insight.

I might sound like I'm trying to make life complicated, but unfortunately even though I've only 'just' out of town, there's a waiting list to get on fixed line broadband (#20 on waiting list) and I'm behind a hill, so something like AirNet cant get direct line of sight.

thanks again!!

I just read here that if I take out 'internet' as apn, it only works in broadband zone.  worth a shot -off to try it now.

Where approx are you? There may be alternative broadband solutions. Flick me an email / PM if you are interested in more info.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

If you plug it into a computer and get a serial interface to it you might be able to change its configuration with AT commands.

Most of the GSM AT commands are fairly standard.  This http://www.zeeman.de/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/ubinetics-at-command-set.pdf document mentions AT+CPOL for managing the "Preferred Operator List". Not sure if that's the right command or even if your USB dongle supports it.

Thanks andgor.

I've been able to successfully modify the preferred carrier via AT commands.  It doesnt seem to have done the trick unfortunately.

If anyone finds this post and wants to give the AT commands a go, here's a link to get you started on Windows: http://www.developershome.com/sms/howToUseHyperTerminal.asp
