A portion of my data did not get charged last night. Steam was still able to access other servers, even though I was using Steam-Limiter. I had it set to Orcon only. I think Steam may have been using http to download from other servers. From my router logs I could see that the only thing running on port 27030 was the Orcon server.

I really wish there were a setting in Steam that would force it to use your preferred server only.

Unfortunately Steam isn't designed with people limited by bandwidth caps in mind. :(

ablears:
I downloaded Saints Row last night from the Orcon server. I know it was Orcon because if you click 'Play' whilst the game is downloading it will show you which server you're downloading from.

The 9GB was counted against my cap... so beware!

The banner in Steam show's the preferred or closest server, not necessarily the servers being used for download, Steam can and will use multiple severs and can use http cdn delivery now too.

Hey everyone.

Steam is currently re-populating the snap cache.
It's an 8TB cache, which should have the full catalogue once complete! It will take some time to complete, but we are already seeing people beginning to pull content off it again!

Oarsome. Can you tell when Arkham City is back on the server?

Unfortunately we have no way of seeing what it actually on the cache. Only the space the content is taking up! All content is managed by Valve!

Thanks, I figured that it might be something like that. I'll give it a go later tonight!

I gave the snap! STEAM system a try last night and checked and it all counted towards my monthly usage.
When you click 'Play', the content provider logo box stayed empty/blank (I tried numerous times).

Also going to try Quickflix over the weekend to check for un-metering as well - but their movies are bit old, lol!

Hopefully someone can correct me, but it appears unmetered quickflix is still "coming soon" to snap?

I had the same issue with steam limiter trying to use snap steam server - it was downloading but with a blank provider box.  I think it was pulling from http or something because I restarted and then briefly got a snap in the provider box, but then the downloads kept going into suspended state.   So I think their server is possibly still populating?

Well, the snap servers are definitely working for some games, but mostly old ones by the looks of it. The only one on my list that I successfully downloaded with steam limiter active was Team Fortress 2 - this just happened to be an incomplete download I had in steam from many months ago. I got around 7 GB for it and none counted against my data cap. The launching popup correctly showed the snap banner while downloading it.

All the more recent games I bought during the summer sale just get stuck in "suspended" state when I try and limit them to the snap server.

It would be good to know from someone at snap how much of that 8TB is now populated on the cache server? Just so we have a vague idea of how much longer it will be :)

Hi Guys,

I've been told there is roughly 921GB of content on the server so far.
Needless to say it’s still going to be awhile for this to finish propagating.

We are seeing data being downloaded off the server though so it looks to be operating normally minus the fact it's still downloading the content.

You need to use Steam Manager OR Steam Limiter if you want to try and prevent Steam from downloading from other content mirrors OR the http cdn system.

Cool one of the games I had queued from the summer sale is now downloading with Steam Limiter on (Gotham City Imposters - just happened to be bundled with one of the packs I got) A few of the others are still waiting though - I have plenty already downloaded from summer sale already though so no real hurry.

I'm still curious how much of the 8TB is now done though? :)
