I'm flatting and we live in Edgeware Road, Christchurch, and have Telstraclear Cable and a Phone line with Telstraclear. We need more data, and the speed advantage of cable is not worth the extra cost, so want to move to Snap....

So my flatmate called and signed up last week. Today I got in touch to check the staus of our application, and just got a call back to say that it was on hold pending approval of these charges:

$199 for a new line and $52 for a new POTs line.

Am I missing something? is our Telstraclear phoneline not a standard POTS line...

What should we do?

Tom

No.

It's a TelstraClear line provided over the TelstraClear network. If you want to move back to a DSL provider over the Chorus network you'll need a tech to visit and hook you up first. There isn't much you can do but pay it, somebody has to visit your house to connect you up and they're not going to do it for free!

Yip, they always have done. It's a HFC network so it's a combination of fibre, coax and copper for the phone service.

When the TCL connection was installed your existing phone wiring would have been disconnected at the demarc and hooked up to the TCL cabling. Chorus need to provision you a new line, then visit the property to hook it up.

And let me guess... Telstraclear won't let me take up there $75 Homeline/Broadband deal because I'm in a cable area.... They really make life difficult don't they...

Is it worth fighting with snap to lower the signup/setup charges? or are they pretty well set too....

Tbh you're going to have this same issue no matter what ISP you go to apart from TCL since you're hard on their network as per the previous posts.
