helis: Line filter removed.

Getting a lot of FEC errors now. Been connected for 25mins so far.

FEC errors are not counted by DLM as 'errors', but they are something to keep an eye on.  I have found that FEC error rates can vary massively with no apparent change in line settings.  I haven't proven this yet, but I have seen FEC errors improve after a modem reset vs a physical line disconnection.

In any case, there's plenty of time yet, see what DLM does over the next 10 days.

helis: Ive been connected for just over 24 hours now with no changes or disconnects.

I know it's hard, but my advise is what Steve says...   Leave it alone for the next 10 days.

Yeah to be honest I'm completely happy with the speed and Snap as an ISP at this point I wouldn't really care if my DLM didn't drop from this point.

I do plan on installing new cabling at some point which may or may not improve my speed but I'm now getting twice the sync speed I was on ADSL but the biggest improvement of all is the general download speeds I get during peak time. They are up to 10 times faster just because I am with clearly a quality ISP now.

In Australia at the moment, but checked via remote login to fritzbox and i'm now on dlm1 :-) so only took 4 days. Oddly it switched to dlm2 on 20th then did a dlm resync at 4:10 am on 22nd but didn't change any params that i could see. Now this morning another dlm resync and down to 1ms :-)

Definitely my advice to anyone starting on vdsl is just leave it alone to do its thing. If nothing changes in first 10 days and you want improved latency profile, then bump snr margin up (to the left) on line settings tab then leave it alone again for a good number of days. At least that's what worked for me. Dlm process is a bit of a mystery though!

2 Days and I'm now on DLM2. I started on DLM6.

So I've gone from 38808 to 41776 in 2 and a bit days.My FEC errors since this mornings DLM change are way down too. I was sitting at 1200per min after I removed the line filter now I am on only 300ish.

Nice Sidefx! What's your FEC / CRC error rate now?

Your stats are looking pretty good there helis, hopefully you keep getting moved to better profiles!

i think the error rates are similar to what they were on dlm2, though I only checked that briefly and didn't take any screenshot.

In my case DLM-1 gave me download sync speed about 10% higher than DLM-2 (which was itself about 10% higher than DLM-6). So it can make a difference.

Interestingly I've just been looking at my screenshots and going from DLM6 to DLM2 my sync increased by almost 10%. It will be interesting to see if I make it to DLM1 and if I see another 10% increase like you. It would put me at about 45-46Mbps sync.

Who do we bribe to get a try at the 17a profile? :)

Well, I had a resync this morning, which was quite unexpected.  No DLM-1 unfortunately but there were some odd changes:

My sync speed is 0.5mbit higher and my CRC errors are triple what they were before!  This was definitely a DLM initiated resync so I'm not quite sure why this happened because nothing has really changed!

@SamF: That's potentially hopeful... though those CRC errors look a bit high maybe?

As mentioned above I had a DLM initiated resync on 22nd that didn't seem to change anything, then 2 days later it did another and put me on DLM1, so fingers crossed you might have some luck.

I'm back home now so had a bit of time to try out the DLM1 profile. Local latency is very nice now:

Latency on speedtests look good too:

And international throughput is looking improved to:

My settings are currently:

Next step: Leave it all as is for a week or so, then I'll bump the SNRM back to 13. Then leave that for a couple of weeks and if it remains on DLM1 bump it back to 12.

Yeah, my CRCs are a little higher than I would like. I suspect that the mild increase in sync speed is to blame here. I might try a resync to see if I it syncs a little lower and reduces my errors.

As for your connection, it's looking pretty damn sweet TBH! 0.06 CRCPM on DLM-1 is very nice!

You fellas seem to have this all fairly well nailed down.
I have a customer who is using VDSL with another provider but we are having a prick of a time getting a solid connection. I am wondering if it is DLM making the connection drop.
What happens is the DSL drops and then the PPP never comes back up. Has anyone seen this? I personally think we just have a crook modem (its a Zyxel). I wired the house out with new cable about a year ago and at the same time we replaced the service lead out to the road. I have also made sure his pair back to the cabinet is in good condition using a Dynatel.
So again, has anyone had an unstable line and attributed it to DLM making changes?

From what I know, DLM will try it's best to maintain a stable line. It has a number of different ways to do this, but basically it will increase error correction (at the expense of performance), until the line is stable. If the line is dropping frequently it's probably time to get Chorus in to take a look. Do the Zyxel modems give any kind of line stats like the fritzboxes do?

Won't DLM only resync\make changes between 4-6am? I've never seen a DLM resync at other time - it's always been 4:10am pretty much on the dot, even during my initial 10 day period. And after the DLM resyncs I've had, it always comes back up without any issues.

According to the Chorus documentation I've seen, if the line is very bad, DLM can resync at any time.
