I think they look really good. He had a great ADSL connection so I expected VDSL would be just as good. I have done exactly what Chorus will do with a Dynatel which tests the line and shows any high resistance's or imbalances on the line and it is crystal clear. The drop outs have happened all different times of the day and never a specific time. I am pretty much convinced it is the modem, was just browsing and saw you talking about resysncs and thought I better just ask to make doubly sure.

Yeah, I agree, the stats look pretty good. Downstream attenuation is 11.7 dB which is ok, but I'm frankly surprised that you're getting 57mbit attainable and 52 actual! That seems quite high for that level of line attenuation. If the router is trying to maintain a higher sync than is realistic it could account for the dropouts. Looks like you're on DLM-2. How long has the VDSL connection been active on that line?

Another resync this morning. No DLM change but my download speed has increased slightly and my CRCPM errors has gone up from 0.07 to 0.11. I also looked into my house wiring. It seems the Chorus box on the outside of my house leads to a box at the apex of the front wall. Two cables come out of this. One to the lounge(Where the fritz is connected) and one to the hallway. So if I can conquer my fear of heights I could easily remove the second jack point line. I also walked to my cabinet to track the distance. Its on my street and 207m's away walking the footpath. So if the cable ran straight to my house and was good quality I'd be seeing a lower attenuation. So I'm wondering how hard it would be to test connecting via the outside box to remove the house wiring as a factor. This way I'd know for sure if its worth running new cable or not.

Hmm, interesting, that's exactly what my line did. Potentially good news because as sidefx said earlier, this happened to him and then he was put onto on DLM-1 two days later!

Take a look at http://www.chorus.co.nz/file/2037/minimum_communication_cabling_requirements.pdf - that's what Chorus are recommending (though I would not bother with RG6 cabling - the future is media delivery over LAN, not over coax).

They are the same line. When I moved in I actually tried to put the ADSL router in the hall way but it was never able to sync there. I could plug a phone in and use it fine but when I plugged the router in it never managed to get sync. So I moved the router to the lounge jack and away it went with out any problems. Not sure what this all means though like the phone in the hall way was clear and fine. The cable looks like cat5 but from a distance I cant be sure. That's why I thought if I tried to connect via the box out side I would be eliminating all internal wiring and giving me a true cabinet to external house stats. If the stats are not much different than I know redoing the wiring will be pointless.

He says that the DSL is flashing when he goes to look at the modem, the DSL will come up but the PPP won't know. I swapped the modem today so will see how we go. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Ah yeah, it's dropping sync then I'd say. I'd be leaning towards the modem as well TBH.

:D CRC Errors are way too high tho, I might have to up the SNR again or else I'm probably not going to stay on DLM-1...
