I have had DSL here since 1999, and remember the telco guy doing some wiring work back then. I have no current problems with my internet.

I am currently with Snap Naked Adsl and looking at  VDSL  for the faster upload speeds.

I have opened my jack point to see whats in it, here is a photo.

I assume that black fliter thingy needs to be replaced cuase its so old ?

My line stats are as follows. Current modem TP LinkTD-W8960N

Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason: 4
Max: Upstream rate = 1280 Kbps, Downstream rate = 25728 Kbps
Path: 0, Upstream rate = 1208 Kbps, Downstream rate = 22027 Kbps

Link Power State: L0
Mode: ADSL2+
Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 9.6 13.3
Attn(dB): 7.0 3.8
Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.8

I was told to use a 50 meter extension cord to fix disconnects problems years ago becuase the cabinet is on the property. I guess it is this thing ? I sometimes see a chorus guy open it.

Would being so close allow me to get faster than 10Mbits upload on VDSL with Snap? Or is that the max upload limit of VDSL ?

I cant get UFB which is due to be installed in June.

Thanks.

Correct in that your filter needs replacing. Because you already have it in place maybe you would want to do the work yourself and save the $400 install fee. Look on the Dynamix site for a xDSL splitter - around $30 retail i think.

With those line stats you may get 17a. I have only seen one connection on 17a and the guy had a 6dB attenuation level on ADSL2+. Now gets 70Mb down and around 15Mb up. From what I understand it was a bit of a rig-moral to get that profile though.

That is not a ADSL cabinet it's a 2Degrees cell site base station, Surely you can see the big mast beside it?

I think you will get kick *rse fast VDSL based on those line stats!  You may get put on a 17a profile, but at the moment we're not sure what the criteria is for this.

Post your question in the VDSL Performance & Tuning thread if you like, there is a lot of info on VDSL there (most of it consolidated in the first post) and a lot of us who have been on VDSL for a while and know all the tricks :)
