My YouTube performance was great until the last few days... I'm now getting videos pausing occasionally even on the lowest bandwidth setting.

@480p i have buffering issues the video is faster than the buffering and is a pain in the ass. if the cache server is hosted with snap then we should not be getting such issues in and around snaps noc

Snap have no control over the cache as Mark Petrie Said.
markpetrie:The Google CDN's that sit at Snap's Datacentre's are owned and operated by Google.

still the transfer rate should be a hell of alot faster than it is, right now its pointlessly slow and probally wouldnt make a difference if there was no caching at snaps noc...

Most sites are crawling for me tonight. Taking a good minute or so to load certain sites. Same thing on youtube.

Anyone struggling with YouTube again recently? I'm sick of YouTube videos stopping to buffer when watching at 480p or 720p

Interestingly, the YouTube speed test video downloads at a great speed - a constant 1.8MB/s
Then I view a video that is not as popular and it downloads at an average of 300KB/s (not enough for high quality)

Just to highlight my point, here is an image showing the speed differences of the YouTube test video, and a less popular video. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/7941/lesspopularvideo.png

Yea its not so good again. Can't watch anything at 720p if its not cached.

The youtube speedtest video is Cached by the looks of it.

I think what you are seeing here is the cache pulling the videos from elsewhere overseas so you can view it. Therefore its not the cache that is the limited factor, its likely to be the servers overseas in which the video is coming from.

Not really an issue Snap can do anything about imo.

Napster: Still slow here for youtube. Vimeo is a fair bit faster but still got buffering in HD

Tested this last night, youtube is slow and I can't run anything in high quality.

When I run the same test via my VPN to the states, its all good, and youtube HD video's run smoothly.

I have been having a similar problem with Trustpower Kinect recently

Since I got the connection 720p has streamed no matter what - so I watch everything in 720p

Now anything above 360p has a nasty habit of preloading all the way as quick as usual, but only playing through for a short while before stopping - I have to completely reload the page multiple times to get it to load properly and using a download plugin only captures up to where it stopped as you would expect.

Very annoying and I can only assume this has to be something to do with googles setup seeing as this is happening across multiple ISPs

Interestingly I upload around 100gb to youtube minimum every month and all my own content plays in 720p just fine -_-

Had this response from Snap today

The YouTube CDN server is hosted in Snaps data centre though the server is operated, managed and maintained by YouTube themselves.

Snap only offers a All You Can Eat (AYCE) service where you can download as much as you like from this server for a fee of $2.

Snap Internet cannot guarantee the download speed from this service and in some cases, end users may experience times where the video clip plays quicker than the file can be downloaded and therefore the video temporally stops/pauses.

So my question is now...  do people with the All You Can Eat package use the CDN server too?  Or if I drop the AYCE package might my YouTube experience improve?

its routed via dns servers, change dns servers and you should be better off.

but even so hosted in house inside the snap ip range youtube should be lightning speed for cached videos

hell i have 4 diffrent isp providers to the one house and snap is by far the slowest on youtube. something is wrong somewhere weather its cached or not the other providers are much more faster and no buffering.

the 4 isps here are: farmside, telecom, slingshot and snap.

all but snap dont have buffering even on the highest setting..
