As per this: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/2831

Does anyone know if there's been any movement on a NZ service to be taken off marketing call lists?  I'm getting a call a night, it's driving me bonkers but I can't not-answer the phone as it could be work or family.  Gah!

Has this been addressed anytime recently?

These days I address it by just putting the phone down. Not hanging up, just putting the phone down. On mute.

Surprising how long some of them will stay on the line.

Have you actually registered yourself on the DNC register ? It does take a couple of months for it to flow thru.

Other than that, caller ID ? At least for few months so you can monitor. If it's an unknown number calling, either ignore, or answer, and in your best thick foreign accent - No No - he no live here ...

Haven't registered on the DNC register, how would I go about doing that?

I have caller ID, but some legitimate callers have their numbers blocked, such as my parents as my dad was a manager at a prison so their number is unlisted and blocked. So not feasible to just not answer :(

There are codes you can dial to disable call ID blocking on a per call basis. If your parents are on a Telecom phone line they can precede your number with 0196, and you will receive CID for that call.
This is per call only, so any number they dial as normal, will have blocked CID.

If they are with other provider, they can contact them as to what codes can be used.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

My 3Gs does this for me, the speaker stopped working so there is no way to know if someone is calling besides the vibrate. Perfect idea to anti-socilaize myself.

Not to mention it gives you a great excuse to hang up on someone -- "No, sorry, I can't hear anything you're saying. [Other-not-2degrees-carrier] coverage is crap here! Can you hear me? ...?"

Tongue out

Lol but I'm a 2degrees fanboy so I can't say that... I could make up that I'm roaming on VF.

I'm aware of all that, thanks.  Basically none of these solutions work for my situation which is why I brought up the original post topic and didn't ask for help with the supplementary information :)
