How is New Zealand participating in the World IPv6 Day?  Trademe, NZ Herald, any of the largest sites participating?

http://v6day.ripe.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi has the nearest vantage points in Australia.

nzpost.co.nz loaded up v6 today, I haven't heard anything about Trademe etc

A lot of the larger sites are hosted in datacentres that don't have IPv6 connectivity yet. Trademe are hosted with Datacom, who appear to have an IPv6 delegation, but not using it. It looks like NZ Herald are with Orcon, so could've gone v6 if they wanted to...

We have some of the largest national sites participating, interesting to see the results.  Google/FB/... are one thing but it's interesting to see how it has worked out on a national level, in a small country.

One of the major ISP's is running a telco in a few hours to discuss the experience, if customer support has received more calls etc.  The don't give native IPv6 to consumer but they do have native IPv6 corporate customers (I don't think there's a single ISP or DC that can't do native IPv6 already) and their interest at this point is to see how the experiment is showing to the masses, the IPv4 consumers.

Are the NZ ISP's doing anything special today?  Any reports how things went as they day is pretty much over there?

http://v6day.ripe.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi has the IPv6 traffic details for AMS-IX and DE-CIX, the two world's largest internet exchange (by traffic) in Amsterdam and Frankfurt.  Interesting to see the details as Europe starts to wake up.   Yesterday DE-CIX was doing 500-600 Mbit/s native IPv6 and AMS-IX the usual 2-2.2 Gbit/s.

So far it's been quite but we are just coming into residential peak time. I've had to turn IPv6 off for only 2 clients today due to OS X problems but other than that it it's running smoothly. After IPv6 day we will double check the ticket history and will likely move our clients over to google whitelisted DNS servers

Ops, didn't realize my location may not show :)  Talking about Finland (or EUganda as we often call it, referring to the idea that Uganda has better telecom's than we do -- despite our nationwide 3G hspa+, 15 nzd/month uncapped mobile broadbands, and 100 nzd/month 250/50 FTTH's (*)).  About the same size as NZ but slightly different edge of the planet.


*) Why 250M when you've got fiber?  Because it's faster than the 200M the cable-TV folks are doing for the same price.

Not bad..  but 1.2 Gbit/s of IPv6 through DE-CIX isn't that much compared to their 1.2-1.3 Tbit/s IPv4 traffic.

The local site I mentioned push out 1.4-1.6 Gbit/s during the day and yesterday the the IPv6 traffic was a few megabits/s, around the estimated 0.42% (;-)


Looking at my home internet connection, quite of a bit of IPv6 traffic over the day.  I didn't notice a single problem from the user perspective but I wasn't IPv6-only anyway.

Geekzone didnt because datacom is still being slack and not rolling out v6 yet. (Haven't heard they have any plans either)
