Its not a bad buy compared to what else is available in the market.

by the time you have sourced it via the US your likely to hit around $350-$400 and you wont have a NZ warranty - plus release date is the 23rd July.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I've just pre-ordered mine.  It's my birthday present.  Timed rather nicely really.

Kickass: Just noticed Noel Leeming have put this up for pre order.

Seems to only be the 16GB model at this stage - $439

I wonder if they will be on the same boat as the NL Samsung Galaxy SIII 32gb phones I have reading so much about on another thread... :-)

Ordered mine via ComGateway. 8GB model for NZ$330 landed (when it turns up...)

‏@PaulOBrien:

Peripheral Test #1. USB keyboard and mouse working great on the Nexus 7. http://twitpic.com/a3j6w2

Peripheral Test #2. USB stick appearing as sda on Nexus 7 when connected, mounting will be possible when rooted to allow use for video etc.

FWIW The N7 has already been rooted and has a CWM recovery available for it.

I know that the devices can't be bought from Google Play with a New Zealand credit card, even through a proxy/VPN, but has anyone tried buying content that way? I wondered whether not having to physically ship the product might make a difference to Google's willingness to sell, as long as the IP address appeared to be US?

I noticed this this morning, need root and free version of vpn is limited to 100 MB/day. Plus you might need a US CC to buy stuff anyway... worth a look

Don't try this too much, at least not on your main google account... I tried with my NZ credit card and it wouldn't accept it with an NZ address. So I then tried putting in a US address.....  It worked initially, but at some point I obviously triggered some anti-fraud system\rules as my google wallet is now locked down and just displays a message with instructions on how to unlock it - which involves sending them scanned copies of photo ids\passport\recent utility bills with my current address\etc,etc.

If it's anything like prior versions, the Play store will tailor the interface relative to where it thinks you are in the world. Anything you can buy now you should be able to buy on the N7, but you'll have to jump through hoops to buy any of the books/movies etc. If you want books, just install the Kindle app and buy them from Amazon, and if you want Movies then there's a myriad of options.

Thanks, that what I was planning to do, I was just curious. I like the range available through the Kindle app for books.

I just answered my own question - I forgot I had time left on my month's sub to Overplay. I got into the full Play Store no problem, saw an ad urging me to download the movies and tv app, then saw this:

Google Play

Thanks for the warning - once I saw that the app was not available I just browsed to see hat the range was - Since I'm more interested in the books, my Kindle app will do fine for now

Yike's this thread grew since I last read it.....

So the only way to get stuff onto this thing is via WiFi and Bluetooth?

Any guess's as to the GPS performance of it? One of the key functions I'd like one for is navigation

I should not be here
