this is what he wrote in that samsung article:

"I suspect Samsung fans' deeply-felt true love really stems from the fact that they couldn't or wouldn't afford Apple products."

Well, be nice if there could be more discussion and less anti-ness on these topics. Apple users like Apple, Android users like Android, WP users like WP. Whats the issue? They are all good. Where they differentiate, you make the choice that suits you best.

As I stated early on, ""If I don't like, say, Audi cars, do I go out of my way to find a blog about Audi and then register in order to vent how I hate Audi? Hell no. I couldn't care less" This is how some Android users act at GZ, rare to see an Apple or WP acting this way, although they do elsewhere. Be quite a good thread for all users to actually discuss the pros and cons in a constructive way for a change.

In as far as this is concerned:

"I suspect Samsung fans' deeply-felt true love really stems from the fact that they couldn't or wouldn't afford Apple products."

Thats rubbish. Some don't like Apple, or Android, or Micro$oft, they choose. Some prefer Apple, Android or Microsoft, they choose.

But not all of us here have a need or desire to criticise and rundown others as they don't use what we use.

"If I don't like, say, Audi cars, do I go out of my way to find a blog about Audi and then register in order to vent how I hate Audi? Hell no. I couldn't care less"

Says it in one.

I would agree if it was an Apple forum, but its not, its a major daily publication. I have an RSS feed to the tech section of the Herald so I get the Apple news as part of that. I can assure you I do not go looking for anything Apple related elsewhere.

If the author feels so strongly about some company's products that he feels compelled to put it out where many of us couldn't give a rats, then as far as I am concerned he should expect feedback. If he only wants nice fluffy feedback then he should take it to an Apple site, and if he still gets feedback he doesn't like, then he has a case.

If there was an Android article out that was written by a pro Android person, I dont see an issue with that. This article was not written to run down Android, just write how reactions happen by some anti Apple people. I see that here all the time. And you can also see that at Apple forums as fanbois aggressively run down Android. One reason why I joined an Apple forum, then unjoined.

I like good tech. Apple, Android, Samsung, WP, they are all good tech, that is my main point. I can heppily recommend an iPhone to someone. I can also happily recommend a Galaxy too.

"I suspect Samsung fans' deeply-felt true love really stems from the fact that they couldn't or wouldn't afford Apple products."

People are usually pationate about the product(s) that they've bought using their hard earned cash - If "journalists" (I use the term lightly) make comments like this they are going to get a backlash.

Death threats etc are not acceptable - but if bloggers make insulting comments like above - they can't start crying because someone takes offence and has a go.

I am an Apple user, and I do agree with you. I found his article generally representative, but that comment is a bit off and inaccurate to say the least.

...but Apple is the elephant in it's own room.

Like it or not apple products are all inclusively apple; hardware, firmware, software. If you dislike even the rounded corners then its a strike against apple.

In the android, WP (or any other) space there is much variety, in form-factor, functionality, and manufacturer. It's possible to dislike any one of these elements without disliking the core.

Soo.... if you like apple, you'll love it. And if there's something about it that's not quite you, you have to dislike the whole package or live with the compromise. But if you want a blue device with a large screen, or a yellow compact flip thingy, then the options before compromise are greater. And even though there's still compromise, you have choice.

Good points. I would add:

People only like a certain amount of choice.

After a certain point more choice just makes it harder work to chose an option. The lack of choice is a large part of the reason for apple's success. It is why some people love apple so much and paradoxically it is why some people dislike apple so much.

Secondly a lot of people that benefit from having choice don't realise the extent to which they benefit from it and what the consequences would be if that choice did not exist.

Yes, we all ike choice. Although oddly, in the two prior posts some also like little choice?? Odd

IMO as someone who likes Apple, well mainly the phone and tablet, I can't speak for anyone else, as to how they choose. Am I with Apple as I prefer little choice? No. I can use it or not, and consider Green or Micro$oft if they ticked more boxes. Di I prefer a lot of choice?  The hardware, as in form factor, shape, size, design is one factor. I like the design, so thats fine with me, and the build. But this is one factor. Its the sum of the parts, and iOS and its gear does that for me. Others may place the form factor/design as paramount, good for them, thats ok too.

To those who get an iPhone so they can say "I've got an iPhone" well thats sad, but its not all of us, be sure of that.

I don't know if I agree that too much choice is a factor to like Apple. Those who hate too much choice can just say "get me a flip phone no bigger than 4"" Or get one they see as ok, rather than pile through too many choices.

Had to read the 2nd point twice. Surely anyone ith a brain can determine the difference and freedom available if they choose product A of 2 products or product B with a huge choice. But an interesting point,

I feel that the Apple vs Android is over analysed. Much of it is emotive, it is like a Ford vs Holden on steroids. Whereas they do the same things, some of which slightly differently. They differentiate between a closed ecosystem which has benefits, and an open one that also has benefits. Both models also have disadvantages.

Android has 65% market share, Apple 16% is the smartphone space, so I still don't see why there is that anti Apple attitude? It actually doesnt affect Android users, yet there is need to criticise, even though it largely is of little interest, other than keep up with tech. What is the psychology there?

In any case, interesting points to ponder Blair and Oxnsox.

I was reading the history of Apple on Wikipedia and saw this;
Microsoft continued to gain market share with Windows, focusing on delivering software to cheap commodity personal computers while Apple was delivering a richly engineered, but expensive, experience. Apple relied on high profit margins and never developed a clear response. Instead they sued Microsoft for using a graphical user interface similar to the Apple Lisa in Apple Computer, Inc. v. Microsoft Corporation. The lawsuit dragged on for years before it was finally dismissed. At the same time, a series of major product flops and missed deadlines sullied Apple's reputation, and Sculley was replaced by Michael Spindler.

Replace Microsoft with Samsung and it would appear history is repeating itself.
